Hey guys,
I've been on this forum for a while with my lg esteem and I never had a problem with installing the drivers for it or rooting it and flashing ROMs, but since I've got the nexus 7 tablet it's been nothing but a headache. I've installed all of the drivers, but when I put it on debugging mode it doesn't show up as a device on my computer. I go to device manager and it says that my MTP driver can't find software when I plug it in and try to install it, but if I take it off debugging mode it Reads the device fine and I could transfer files. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still no luck. SOMEBODY PLZ HELP Me!!!!!!!!

Lets start from the beginning:
Are you familiar with adb and fastboot?

Also, try these drivers, they're universal and should work for any android device

hey rx,

so i am familiar with adb and fastboot for the most part. i know what they mean and what they do. iv'e just downloaded and installed the universal drivers in the link you posted and now windows xp acts like it recognizes the device but it doesnt show up in my computer whether its in mtp mode or debugging mode. i uninstalled the previous drivers before i installed these.........now what?

okay so my root toolkit is now able to detect the device with these new drivers installed. but it still wont show up as a removable device in windows. i know the drivers are working now and i am wondering if i install the previous driver that made it show up as a removable device will the drivers trip over eachother?

If the root toolkit detects it, have you tried having it root?

You can always switch drivers back afterwards.

They may interfere with each other from having both, bit you could try it. I have both installed on my computer at home

Okay so my phone is officially rooted but it still won't show up as a removable device on my computer. any suggestions?

yup. the drivers work fine as i was able to root my device and there doesnt seem to be any problems when i go device manager cuz there isnt a yellow !. i just cant see it when i open up my computer

ok i again tried uninstalling AND REINSTALLING to no avail. i even tried installing the drivers from the asus website. that didnt work so i installed the universal drivers that i used to root it with. now when i go to device manager while debugging is enabled there is a yellow ! under other devices with mtp under it with a yellow !.......plz help me guys im getting beyond frustrated with this tablet

Several drivers are installed, one for adb which you used to gain root and another for MTP access. If you're seeing the yellow !, you need to do the driver cleanup again from NRT.

Then you need to go to settings storage, press the menu (3 dots) and make sure MTP is set, maybe even toggle it to camera/media and see if that works, then back. (If you do it too fast, you'll get a driver error.)

When MTP works you'll see a drive show up in My Computer that's different from what you've seen before. No letter is assigned, just the device name. You might have to refresh My Computer (F5 key) to see it. But first fix that banged out device. :D
