Poor battery life after upgrading to 4.4.4

Usage pattern hasn't changed. But after upgrading to 4.4.4 my phone hardly gets through the 8 hours at the office...whereas 4.4.3 could get me home with 20% left. I monitor the apps...I don't see anything unusual. Screen, Android system, email on top of list...the usual culprits.

Am I alone with poor 4.4.4 battery life> :(

I saw that too. I think a couple of restarts fixed that up for me. Have you cleared out the Caches?

And, are you using ART or Dalvik?

Boot into recovery ...

Turn phone off.

Press and hold volume down, volume up and power until the fastboot menu appears.

Use the volume keys to change to recovery mode, then press power to select.

Wipe cache will be one of the options.

Then reboot.

Any down side to doing this?

OK, I get to where I scroll to recovery mode and then I hit power. Then I get white google lettering, then I get a dead droid that says. No command

Hmmm. When you get the dead droid, try pressing the down volume button. If that doesn't do anything, then it looks like something might be wrong with your recovery partition. Just to refresh my memory, are you rooted? Have you ever flashed a custom recovery?

Down button didn't do anything. No, I am not rooted and no custom recovery

Thanks for your help

I think to get to that menu in stock you let it timeout, and press POWER+VOL UP to bring up the menu.

I just tried that and the phone just reboots.

Thanks anyway.

I am thinking of doing a system reset and rebuilding all the apps.

Hi jhonb,

In the stock recovery (the dead android), you actually press Volume Down + Power to bring up the menu. You'll then scroll up and down with the volume buttons, and make your selection with the power button (just like at the bootloader).

Hope this helps - I see the stock recovery infrequently enough that I always have to look up how to use it whenever I do encounter it :D

You are, of course, correct Codesplice. I must have just flashed one of my Samsung phones that uses the vol. up and down, plus power to boot into recovery. :o Sorry about that jhonb.

So, after I boot holding the vol up and down and the power button, I then choose recovery mode snd push the power button to choose, then I get the dead Android, then I push the vol down and power button?

It just reboots for me. Did I mess this up?

Try just the volume down and power.

Still no luck getting to the Wipe cache screen, It just reboots. But thanks for all the help.

So after 2 months I finally figure out what was using my battery.

LOCATION REPORTING and LOCATION HISTORY IN GOOGLE MAP!

DISABLE THEM! NOW!

Glad I finally figure out what was going on.

True, but there is a trade off in functionality, it might be worth it for some but not others... To decide we need to know what each one is for.

Location Reporting is the feature that gives apps like Google Now, Google Maps, Foursquare, Twitter, and even your camera app access to your position. Whenever an app shows you something nearby, suggests local businesses, or helps you find the closest gas station, it's using Location Reporting.

Location History is the feature that keeps track of where you've been, and any addresses you type in or navigate to. For example, it's how Google figures out where "Home" and "Work" are so Google Now can estimate your commute time or give you traffic information for those places. Turning it off will still give you traffic information, but it means Google won't try to guess where you're going based on your previous searches.

I shut them both off yesterday I don't use those features often enough to sacrifice the battery life.

It made a huge difference in my battery life.

Thanks
