poor battery life - factory reset?

I seem to be having the same issue as many others concerning poor battery life. When I got my S3 the battery could often last a couple days, this S6 doesn't even last through 1 day before I need to charge it.

I read a few posts where it is recommended to factory reset the phone so was thinking of trying that but don't know if that will mess up other things. Are there precautions to take before doing this? Will I lose information, apps, pictures, texts, etc? Should I try something else first?

A factory reset fixed mine instantly. I had a brand new S6 with about a 5-hour battery life just a week in, and now it lasts almost as long as my iPhone 5S did.

Before a factory reset, which should be a last resort as you'll have to rebuild your phone again, have you installed any apps that could be hogging the battery? Is the battery draining as fast in "Safe mode" (power off. Reboot while holding volume down - "safe mode" shows in lower left corner. To exit "safe mode" just reboot). If the phone is consuming battery noticeably slower in safe mode, it is a rogue app.
