Help Poor Battery Life

Mine was on 90% when I went to bed, it lost about 1% over night, (8 hours being left in airplane mode). I can then leave it connected to WiFi for another 8+ hours checking email and texting (and browsing news etc. at lunch time) it was showing 74%. Finally after using it for about another 6 to 8 hours constantly browsing and listening to music / watching movies it finally needed charging.

I easily get 2.5 / 3 days of moderate use, no idea how long it would last if I hardly used it, can't put it down long enough to find out :)

I don't have 3G turned on unless I need to browse without WiFi, I keep the screen on the darkest setting unless I am outdoors (then I use Auto), I also flashed it with Darky's ROM 9.5

Sometimes through the night it only loses about 6%, but other nights it loses upto 25% and thats with everything turned off. It seems that after being unplugged from the charger for over 15 hours, it starts too lose battery at about 5% when im not using it.

Longest battery I had was 54 hours with 4 hours screen on time, and 1.5 hours of call time. That was with Doc rom, Speedmod K13c kernel, and JQ1 modem.

Current setup is Darkyy 9.5, Ultimate 1.2 OC 1200hz UV -50, and JVE modem. With data on, wifi on, background on, GPS on, auto brightness I was at 19 hours this morning with 2 hours of screen time and 1 hour of call time with 54% left. I know this setup isn't made for saving battery, but I think this is more than enough.

For your problem try flashing a different kernel/ modem as those are the two things that could possibly be killing your battery. Try speedmod as everyone says they get good battery with that and try flashing JVE, JQ1, or JPG modem

yeah my battery seem poor too, though i leave packet data mode on usually, but the reason is that when i turn it off i find the battery sems to drain as fast if not faster! though i haven't really tracked it to see if it is so can't verify that claim.

i am swinging towards custom firmwares if samsung don't bring out 2.3 soon enough.

i have also been eyeing off these "3500 mAh" batteries on ebay, but i am suss on them. made in china, chinese batteries are notorious for not being the rating they claim to be. anyone have any advice on these? anyone tried them? a guy we work with got a larger battery for his phone and he said it is good. he got his from canada but and it cost him about over $100 AUD for it so I'm still suss on the chinese ones.

A Cure for poor battery life

1 switch off phone
2 Remove battery
3 whistle dixi
4 replace battery
5 switch on phone

works for me every time.

You know what helps the battery people, make sure to discharge the battery for like 3 days and charge up. Do NOT charge halfway through let it fully discharge. You'll notice a big change in the battery.

very simple solution for poor batery life

i have insanity0.6.9 i9000 international
i just flash baseband to i9000xxjpu and wooooooow
normal use empty battery about 15-20% at day

Hey guys,

I recently got an SGS myself and had severe battery issues. Like, drained the whole battery in some 11-12 hours. Since then I made some adjustments to my SGS.

1. Upgraded to 2.2.1
2. Disabled backup (to the cloud)

And that's it.

Now? Surfing on 3G (turn it on when I need it, wifi is always on), tethering to others, downloads, music, Angry Birds... relatively heavy usage - when I come home, I still have some 40% of the battery.

Obviously, if the phone is used a lot, there is precious little you can do to stop the juice being sucked out of your battery.
There is another option, however, and it has definitely increased my battery life for when the phone is not being used.
Look for Green Power Free on the market. Another one you might want to consider is JuiceDefender, but personally I was not quite as happy with that one.
Give them a try and see what you think.
There are other market apps that do similar things, but these are the only 2 I have tried.

This morning my phone dies so i had to charge it while it was off. I charged it for 3 hours till 1pm until it was fully charged. 11 hours later its 28% and ive hardly touched it. Its been going down about 5% an hour. Sometimes it only goes down 1% an hour. Thats what i dont understand. Im not doing anything different so why the change in battery life?

I leave my phone on all the time, but put it in flight mode at nighttime or when it is in my locker at work. Also i turn the background data off and the auto sync off. I have a seperate battery charger and 2 spare batteries, so i always carry a fully charged battery with me as a spare.

Yup agree with you.. 2 hrs of listening to music, say about 1 1/2 hrs of calls text msgs, emails, FB, twitter and all and say about 30 mins of game time.. Still end up with about 35% battery.. I would say thats not bad, how many SMARTPHONES can offer you that kind of battery life .... Ppl need to understand that this phone has a massive screen, so tweak and be on the best FW and am sure your phone can last a day.. BTW am on JPY..

Is it ok to leave it on charge after it is fully charged at 100%?

I have (only once) had my phone wake me up in the middle of the night making an alarm sound, telling me to unplug the battery charger. I usually charge my phone every night and it hits 100% some time during the night and doesn't usually complain to be unplugged. It must have been some special circumstances that made it do it. Maybe it started overheating?

But this means it should be ok to leave it plugged in, and it will alarm you if it needs to be unplugged.

PS: The alarm was REALLY loud, full volume. And I have my ringer tone set to minimum when i sleep.

I have also found data syncing to be the biggest culprit of battery drain. And 3d gaming. The phone heats up when I play games like Jet Car Stunts and SpeedX 3D so there must be some intense work going on.

This morning at half 7 my battery life was at 21%. I charged it till 8am and it was at 42%. 8hours later it is now at 15% and it has been locked the whole time. Should this be happening?

Check wi-fi sleep policy is set to turn off when screen is off.
