Root Poor youtube video quality (Link for youtube with hd support/screen off playback)

Anyone know how to get YouTube to play videos in hq? The app and mobile site plays videos in crappy quality even when set on hq. I know that the phone can play videos in real hq because some videos embedded on sites play in hq.

Edit: found a modded version of youtube that supports 720p/1080p playback

How does that modded YouTube work? I want to try it but I don't think it'd be able to work because our screens do not support either of the above video qualities (but for some reason we can record in 720p -_-)

It works I downloaded the holo themed one. Its a flashable zip. Make sure you uninstall the stock YouTube app before you flash. Once you open YouTube hit the menu button and go to advanced settings. You can enable enable HD over Wi-Fi and 3g/4g. It may not be exactly hd but the picture is about as crystal clear as you can get.

OMG it even plays with the screen off. I've been trying to find something to do that for 2 years! I love YouTube now lol

HD wasn't that big of a deal of a difference. Nor did it play with the screen off. Uninstalled. Meh, I like the normal app anyway, being able to minimize the player to a Picture-In-Picture, while I browse for other stuff. lol.

Idk its working fine for me. I'm on dsf 0.6 so the YouTube app is already uninstalled from the system. I like the new YouTube feature too but I also like watching videos in good quality. Hq looked like pure pixelated blurry crap on my screen. HD looks just as good as on my tv.

I've been using viral pro(YouTube popup in HD). It actually lets u choose between a few choices for resolution. It has the popup feature for running multiple applications at once, screen off(or minimized) option, and its really customizable for window sizes and colors of ur really looking to match it with any themes and such u might be using. And as always, u can't beat free. It's over in the play store. I/don't usually go around endorsing any specific apps, but I got this for the same resolution issues as u, and just happened to see a good amount of other perks, that I've kept it. Hope that maybe I helped someone on this, of so hit that button..thanks guys
