Hi,
I am new to Android but I am a Windows power user. I'm looking for an Android mail client that will perform filtering on the client side. In other words, download all messages via POP, then filter them for spam etc. and drop them into folders. Just like what desktop email clients have been doing for over 20 years.
This type of Android app does not appear to exist as of Spring 2013. Is this because everyone is letting Google filter all of their messages for them? I don't use Gmail and I never will. I have my own web domain. I have server side filtering (SpamAssassin) disabled because it results in too many false positives.
So I hope someone has some suggestions. K-9 doesn't have this ability. There are some manual spam filters out there that require the user to review each message and delete it from the server before downloading with the mail client. This is worse than pointless because it forces my attention in precisely the manner that I am trying to avoid. In other words, it forces me to read all headers and figure out what is spam and what is not. That does not take me where I need to be.
So, what the hell? Is there an Android app that actually performs client-side filtering on downloaded POP emails? If not, why not? Is everyone just letting Google manage their lives now? If so, that's really scary.
Thanks
Aaron
