Root (Port) Behold 2 1.6 ( No Twiz w/ Busybox & Rooted Kernel )

Well, I hope the battery life improves. I flashed it with a full battery yesterday morning at 6am. Set everything to drain the battery quickly. It shut down on it's own by 12pm. Charged for 4 hours and turned it on. Left the GPS, Location Services, WiFi, Bluetooth turned off and reduced the brightness to 75%, and timeout of 1 minute. Phone was dead again by 11pm, Charged it overnight, turned it on at 5:30am this morning and it is now 7:30am and it is at 69% charge. Am I missing something?

Edit: It is 7:44am and it is now at 65%.

I am getting pretty good battery life but I do keep an eye on the phone using Spare Parts to make sure it is sleeping correctly. As an example I started at 100% charge at about 5 pm last night and at 6 am this morning the phone was down to about 56%. That is with some usage, wifi on when screen on, gps on but wireless location off.

I am still finding the phone not sleeping at times. The only fix is to restart the phone. I am trying to pin down a situation where I can always prevent the phone for sleeping. I know using wireless location seems to keep the phone from sleeping even if I then turn wireless location off. GPS alone does not prevent the phone from sleeping. I had GPS alone running last night and this morning and the phone is sleeping correctly.

If anybody has an easier way to make sure the phone is sleeping correctly (processor not running 100% all the time) please let me know.

please tell me you didnt get suckered into paying for something that google offers for free? if not, dont install that crap app even if you do find someone with it, totally not worth it. like it said, google offers it free with the google map app you have already on the phone. it even talks to you! good luck anyway

It's 9:16am and the phone has just sat there sleeping with nothing turned on. and it is down to 56%.

BH_MAN, what is your typical test you do for determining the battery life after you flash a new ROM?

BH_Man you are awesome! Thank you for all the work that you do. It is people like you that make the world a better place. The mod's you have done are great. 1.6 no twiz (DOTS) fixed all my problems but was not satisfied with the battery. Then Warheads come out and it was promising. However, I am experiencing the same issue with the battery. And I think I got it figured out. Home++ is not allowing the sleep mode to function properly. Yes I could not beleive it myself. I uninstalled Home and went back to Panda and the sleep issues stopped. Re-installed Home and the issue came back. Weird! but in the FAQ of home there is comments of worse battery life. So its time for work, and I have Panda on again. Lets see if it hold all day. But if there is a fix for the battery drain for Warheads with Home++ I sure would like to know.

EDIT: Panda has been working fine. However, after charging with the phone on while driving to work, (listening to ShoutCast Radio) the sleep mode did not come on after removing from the charger. I powered down the phone, brought it back up and it is sleeping correctly. What is correctly? 5 minutes from the screen going black. Press any key besides the lock and power and the screen should stay off. Only when you press the lock or cube keys should the phone lock screen come on.

EDIT: Ok, testing some more I find that Home++ still wont sleep correctly. But a power down will get the phone to sleep right. As soon as you run any application, regardless of the type or service (WiFi, GPS, BlueTooth) the sleep mode does not work again. Powering down the phone and restarting seems to fix the issue.

Well, as it seems alot is having issue's with the ROm, I however am not..... I'll make another update just to get rid of the Launcher, either way? still not sure why people are having so much trouble with it..

No Twiz Launcher TwLauncher.apk

also Posted on the OP with Install how-to
Since this is mainly the Issue that people is not liking, just install and reset :D

Starting R9 galaxy rom today..
Enjoy,

BH_MAN, This is an awesome ROM. It sounds like the Battery issue is not do to your ROM but with Home++.

I like the look of Home++. Also, need to report something I noticed with persistant root not working. I noticed that if I grab the terminal just after it boots up the screen, I can lock onto it. If I wait, then I get standard user access for apps.

Another thing I thought about is that I always install the t-mobile my account app, and I noticed root disappearing after I check the device info using it.

I don't know if any of this helps. Maybe that's why I have terrible battery life and loss of root for apps

But great work!!

Battery Life I'm not Going to worry myself about, it's an on going issue & I have Posted many Time on ways to get the Most out of the Battery.... Flash / Let Die / Reboot after Charging / or Charge while Phone is Off.... Also, I have said this many time... The Phone Need to Retrain after Flashing, it can take up to a week for the battery to calibrate.

I'll post this again as I'm sure it's cluttered in the forum, but do this if you are having issue's with root.

adb shell
cd /system/bin
chmod 04755 sh
chmod 04755 su
exit
Now Reboot / Power Off the Phone.

ok so i downloaded this new thing but i dont know where everything goes???? what goes where please help

If you're talking about the ROM then just following the directions in the original post. If you're talking about the old WarHeads launcher, directions for that are in the original post as well.

I did that. That's cool! I know those commands by memory. Then I rebooted then after the desktop comes up I waited for about 10 seconds after the apps tray loads and then I clicked the better terminal and I get $ instead of #

It truly is a timing issue.

Thanks BH_MAN.

Keep up the good work. You're customer service is 100% better than Samsung and T-Mobile in regards to android firmware.

Tested it again and now it's back to # again.
There is a ghost in the android machine.

none of us regulars believe that the perfectionist in you will let this go unremedied!...lol...still outstanding work though!

since pushing the old TwLauncher is a temporary fix, are you gonna upload a new Home++ Launcher once you figure out the problems? or should we pull it now and save it somewhere if the fix is not with the launcher but with something else instead?

Okay Just an Update:

Curiosity got the Better of me, so I booted into linux and had another look at the kernel init.rc .... Made some changes to it, needed changes at that, so I'll be testing it out shortly & will be posting it for others to test regarding App's not closing like they should & Root problem's as well...

I'll get it flashed to my phone to make sure it boots, then I'll release it to the wild for testing...

okay, new Kernel Edit's seem to make things much happier, but then again I never had issue's but I can see even on my Phone a speed increase & some lag is gone as well...
Take this as you will !!!

Kernel edit's
- Child set to 0 ( No Settings previously )
- On boot / On init also now Repairs SH / SU
- Changed Memory Allocations for Home App's to 1536 / was at 4098

Please Report Back with Initial thoughts & Final Thoughts so I can maybe Remedy this as fast as I can... Thanks.
Testers / Root Issue user's only Please!
ODIN Ready Download > kernel.tar

i asked BHMAN about doing this, and he says the handcent isnt designed as a standalone app (it needs/uses the default TwMms to work). i had tried to pull, rename, and push before and i couldnt send/receive pic messages. but if anyone figures this out, PLEASE POST

I have removed twmms.apk and mmsnotifier.apk and handcent works as my default app,i dont know about sending pics and other files havent tried it yet

BH_MAN_16_No_Twiz Download > BH_MAN_DOTS.zip - i dl this so far its working great, ive only noticed one issue, when writing or copying to the sim card it force closes... any way to fix that?
