Porting number from Verizon

TR;DR, how do I transfer a Verizon # to Virgin Mobile correctly ?(more info below)

Hi all, first post here :) looking for some info with someone who has gone through the porting # thing already (i'm a long time Verizon user that cutting the cord)

My Verizon contract is due to run out on June 11th, I put a stop to the line on June 11th so it would auto-charge me for another month.
I’ve since purchased the Victory for Virgin Mobile phone, I haven’t activated it yet, but I would greatly like to port my number to it.

My questions are:

  • what is the correct way to do it from Verizon?
  • Can / should I do it before my contract runs out on June 11th?
  • Should I activate my VM phone and then switch Numbers?
My google-fu really isn’t turning up anything worthwhile to those specific questions, any advice is appreciated.

thanks for the help in advance.

You're going to want to do this the day your contact is up in order to avoid fees from Verizon for early cancellation.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

So if I understand you correctly, my account expires on the 11th, so if I do this on the 11th I shouldnt get charged the Early term fee?

My end game really is to avoid that fee, and not lose my # (i've had this number forever) I'm prepared to pay an extra month of Verizon service "if" I had too, but i dont want too if it is avoidable.

I'd recommend calling Verizon and double checking if you could do it the day before without being charged. I helped my fiance switch from T-Mobile and I switched from Verizon but in both cases we terminated early and gladly paid the fees.
