Porting question.

I have a question hopefully someone here can answer.

I'm getting tired of waiting for the EVO 3D. My current phone is literally dying (touch pro 2). So i was thinking, if i go to a sprint store and pick up a HTC arrive (just to play with wp7). And then when the EVO 3D comes out i'll upgrade to that.

And if it's not out in 30 days, i will just cancel and get the HTC sensation on T-mobile (june 8th).

I'll be porting my number from AT&T. So i don't know if/how this will work. Can someone guide me or tell me if this is a good idea?

Sounds like a lot of hassle to me, but I believe you can do that. Sprint has the 30 day trial thing, but I don't know how that is as far as porting a number in and out so quickly.

That said, if you're looking to get the EVO 3D, I'd suggest doing it through Best Buy. What I'd do is, get the EVO 4G (just so you can get used to Android OS) and HTC Sense, but at the same time, I'd tell them that your intention is really to get the EVO 3D (and put a deposit on a pre-order). I'd get something in writing from the manager that they'll allow you to swap out the EVO 4G for the EVO 3D, as soon as it's made available. Once it's made available, you'll have that $50 BB gift card, plus the money you spent on the EVO 4G (I believe it's only $150 right now), so you'll in essence be doing a straight exchange.

I would be surprised if Best Buy wouldn't be willing to do this.

I'm already very familiar with the android OS. I'm dual booting it on my phone right now.

My question is only about the porting. I agree it's a lot of hassle but my current phone is dying like i said.

The thing with best buy is that they might have a re-stocking fee. With Sprint it's $0 if you exchange/get a refund within 30 days.

Have some patience, sure the EVO 3D will come out in June. Why not use an old phone if your other phone is dying? I wouldn't go to T-Mobile as someone else mentioned about the whole merger thing with AT&T. Forget that! Everyone on the board seems to be freaking out over a phone. People on the Sprintusers forum isn't acting like this. Its a phone and when it comes out, it will be out. Sprint likes to launch their good phones over the summer months when the kids are out of school. Allows Sprint to make more money. The phone will launch the first week of June. Mark my words.

Gotcha. If you're already familiar with Android OS, then it really depends if you're willing to take the risk.

I've never been charged a re-stocking fee with Best Buy. I just recently upgraded one of my secondary lines to that Motorola iDen phone, but as soon as I found out the Nextel and Sprint connectivity were completely separate, I swapped out to the LG Optimus. I didn't get charged a single penny for "re-stocking."

I'm not saying that this would be the same case for an EVO 4G for EVO 3D swap, but if you state all of this up front, worst thing they can say is "no" that you wouldn't be able to do that.

BUT, if they want the sale (which would include adding a "new" line on Sprint), I can't see why they would have a problem with this. There going to want to get rid of as much EVO 4G inventory as possible anyway, and what better way of "guarantee" on a sale than to have a customer buy an EVO 4G knowing that they'd be coming in to swap it out with the EVO 3D? No matter what, they're locking in the new account for Sprint, which will be worth WAY more than losing the ability to re-sell that EVO 4G.

I'd almost be willing to bet that if you signed onto Sprint around the end of next week, the EVO 3D would release in time for you to do a 30 day swap.
