POS Integration

I'm a beginner coder with HTML and JAVA, and I've been wanting to take on creating apps. Since I know some JAVA & it isn't too hard, I wanted to start with android. A good friend of mine owns a few bars, and I'd like to create an app for him. An exclusive app tailored for his bars where people can place orders using an app. But at the same time it's going to need an option to integrate orders with his POS and allow them to even pay for orders using their phones. No need to stand at the bar, bartender brings everything out to them without them even needing to get out of their seats. So I have some questions.

Is it hard to integrate an app with a POS ?

Is this going to require the POS developer's permission?

Would it be a better idea to set up his own system that collects all the app orders that can then send it up to a server at the bar to let alert the bartenders? If I go this route then everyone using this app are stuck paying electronically. Which may not be a bad thing. Just seems like it's too much having 2 separate POS systems.

I also want to make this an exclusive app for his bars. This way he can have some exclusives that no other app offers. I don't want to use anyone else's app because I have a million places we can go with it. If I can make this it's going to be huge for his company. As well as a nice addition to my resume
