Help [POSSIBLE FIX][NEED TESTERS] Wifi rollback to 2.1 (Kernel + libs)

karendar

Android Enthusiast
Hello everyone,

I need testers for this, this is a possible workaround for the wifi issue.

DISCLAIMER: THESE FILES ARE UNTESTED AS I DO NOT HAVE THE PHONE! FLASHING THIS CAN POSSIBLY BREAK YOUR ANDROID, SO BACK EVERYTHING UP FIRST!!

I've extracted a zip file including all the 2.1 files (Kernel + Wifi libs) and made it into an Amon-RA flashable package. If you do not know how to flash update.zip files, this might not be for you. If you're curious anyways, please see the All things root forum for a guide how to flash a recovery.

The v10d-signed.zip is the old zip package which should be flashed on Gingerbread 2.3.3 to rollback the wifi portion + kernel only. If phone doesn't boot after this update, I've supplied the v20a-signed.zip to restore all files to normal.

Here they are:

2.1 WIFI + KERNEL: View attachment v10d-signed.zip
2.3.3 WIFI + KERNEL: View attachment v20a-signed.zip

Again, it is **HIGHLY RECOMMENDED** to do a nandroid backup before flashing these! If both files fail, simply restore from the nandroid you created and everything will be back to normal!

Thanks!

i am surprised nobody is even testing it...well...i only have one phone but I will give it a shot, worst come to worst I'll just send back for warranty repair....

I've been following this thread since karendar started it... but i'm in Mexico, so no warranty for me... best of lucks, zhuanyi... may the force be with you! ::fingercross:: :)

So I did a nand backup first and then used flash zip menu in recovery with the 2.1 wifi files, it gave me status code 6 as soon as I hit Enter to confirm flash, I then flashed the entire phone use the 2.1 custom ROM I found on another thread here, followed by flashing using the 2.1 wifi files, still ended up with the same issue. I finally just did a nand restore and everything is back...
If there is anything else I should try, feel free to let me know.

Thanks for trying. Don't know why the file doesn't work... I'll have to revise the updater-script.

I think noone wanted to test it because of the disclaimer. ;) Everyone's afraid to brick their phones I guess.

My phone actually "bricked" after I loaded the 2.1 OS, but I had a NAndroid backup so I just restored it and everything worked....Is there any chance you can brick the phone completely if you have nandroid backup?

@karendar: The file is a little bit smaller than the entire custom ROM (less than 20MB compare to 100+ MB), does that mean we need to move the file on this thread to within the custom ROM zip file? Thanks!
