Possible to disable usb charging from external device?

Hey All,

When connecting an external scanner to my Galaxy s4 my phone charges from the scanner - therefore reducing battery life (of the scanner) to basically making the option (scanning directly to phone useless)
Can I stop the phone from charging from the external device?
Cheers
S.

As far as I've looked no there is not. It's not so much an android problem as it is an electrical impossibility. If energy is travelling to your phone with x amount of joules and you only need about x/2 joules to get the pictures, what's left to do with the other x/2 joules? It's going to your battery thanks to the USB being in the same place as the charging port.

You could take out your sd card from your device (if you have one) to place in the scanner if you so needed though! Just a suggestion.

You might be able to scrape the charging contact off of the connector at one end of the cable, just remember not to use that cable to try to charge the phone. I don't know for sure if USB requires that charging voltage as an indicator that it has connectivity.
