Root Possible to maintain root/roms with phone alone?

Hey everyone,
I am in the deciding stage on whether or not to root my evo v. The only problem is I am about to sell my desktop, which will only leave me with my phone and a android netbook for the foreseeable future. I know for the initial root I will need a operating system, but my question is: will I be able to substain my root and flash roms with just my phone alone? I have a 64 gb micro sd so there is plenty of space in the phone itself. Just don't want to root and be SOL if I need a third party operating system down the line (moving to San Diego, so will take me a bit to save up for another computer). Any thoughts or recommendations would be great. Thanks!

well you can do that.. but you would need your desktop to unlock bootloader/s-off but all of those things can be done in a day or two.. after that you can do anything you want without a computer... so if you can hold onto your pc long enough to unlock/flash a recovery/get s-off you can be completely desktop free after..

Alternatively, you can be like me and use 4EXT recovery. I'm not S-Off, and I flash roms without my computer all the time. (I use my work's WiFi to download, too!)

Just make sure you pay attention to what the ROM says it needs as far as H-Boot goes. I think stock is 1.57...the ROM will specify usually. If in doubt, post in the thread and ask.

After the initial process requiring computer for root and "turn into a 3d", I have not plugged into a computer a single time. Using 4ext and root explorer, I've done everything from the phone itself since I bought it.

i would make a nandroid on a separate sd card in case your 64 gets corrupted down the road, sort of like a recovery disk. either that or dropbox the nandroid if you have another phone to re-download it with.
