Help Post Noob questions here

Thanx MrB for the radio answer. Just figured I'd repeat the following question to see if I can get an answer

anyone got a link to the place on this forum where the emoticon codes are listed. I only know a couple of them by heart but I'd like the complete list. I'm talking about the ones where you put a certain word or phrase inside the the colons like this one... :ditto:

My phone's earpiece is broken, VZW is sending me a replacement Spectrum. I am on AOKP4.1. What do I need to do so that VZW doesn't know that I was on non-stock software? (they will charge me $299 as I loose the warrantee if they find out on their 100 point testing that I was on a custom firmware)

Flash the cab and then do a factory reset. Or flash it back to v6 through cwm. There's a thread here somewhere for that.

Since I have a Spec, I'll post this here, but I'll also post in the Android Applications forum. Here goes...

I use Avast Mobile Security, but I really haven't seen any evidence of virus attacks reported in the Android community. Do any of you recommend this type of app or am I just wasting phone resources by leaving it running 24/7?

There is no need for it

I have a LG Specrtum currently on zv7. Its rooted and last night I flashed cm 10.1. It was freakin awesome until I went into my sd card and started deleting files to free up space. The phone slowly started its decline. then it rebooted and went into a bootloop. It would show the LG startup then go to the cm 10 screen with the nice blue rotating circles, and then it would reboot and do the same thing. I tried reflashing the rom and gapps exactly like the directions said. I tried to flash my tar backup zip that I made before i flashed the rom, but It says not found. I then tried to flash a zip for my stock recovery thinking I could take it back to stock that way. now it just bootloops. if i boot it into recovery it just shows the android guy and then it goes to the cm 10 bootloop again. What have I done?!!! PLEASE HELP!!

what you just typed makes no sense to me because nothing you did should have caused what you said. I'm not sure why this happened to you but it sounds to me that you pretty much tried all the simple fixes so I think you need to flash the cab. Go here and try this Flashing LG signed Firmware - LG Spectrum - RootzWiki

the pwnage tool will re-root me, i'm guessing? I really appreciate the help guys. I'm at work and cant wait to try this when I get home at 4. I was sure that I was screwed when I tried to flash the stock recovery and then it started booting to stock, then it started the cm bootloop. I will post what the results are. Thanks again! You guys make it possible for me to be confident about learning how these phones work.

you'll be returned to full stock but will be able to reroot and unlock the bootloader no problem.

PHEW! I thought I erased some important file and couldnt get it back. I had a friend root it for me a while back because I didnt think I could do it. He put a rom on it for me, too. Then I got a wild hair the other night and started looking through this awesome forum and decided to try it myself. Do you know the easiest way to root once I get back to stock? I'm a little intimidated about trying it myself.

Use this link to root and unlock the bootloader http://androidforums.com/spectrum-a...20-bootloader-pwnage-tool-lg-spectrum-4g.html

It's pretty easy to be honest.

Basically just make sure usb debugging is enabled

the phone is set to internet/modem or ethernet mode under connectivity settings(both work but I normally use modem whatever one you use if that doesn't work try the other one, I've had to do this before)

of course you must have the proper drivers installed on your pc

then just run the tool. It does all the work.

To make sure it worked for you go to the market and grab a root checker app and grab a reboot recovery app and use the root checker app to check root and then use the reboot recovery app to boot into CWM and if all that works then you were successful. Actually all you need is this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/...MsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94cHJvIl0. The free version will work as well but to me this is the best root app there is. It will check root and reboot into recovery for you plus it has tons of other neat features and the dev is super responsive and helpful. And you if plan on rooting and messing with custom roms it's a must have IMO. Also this app will allow you to make backups of your apps so when you flash a new rom you can quickly reinstall all your apps without having to download them from the market.

Once you have this done download whatever rom you want (the best ones are CM10.1 and AOKP42) and flash it in recovery.

CM10.1 CyanogenMod Downloads
AOKP42 Releases | AOKP

Before flashing the Rom make a backup of your current system in CWM. And use the tar method.

To flash a rom all you do is reboot into CWM recovery wipe data/factory reset / wipe cache / wipe dalvik (dalvik is located under advanced in CWM) and then go to install zip from sdcard / choose zip from sdcard / navigate to your rom zip / and install it.

You will also need gapps which can be obtained here Goo.im Downloads - Downloading gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip These are all the google apps and due to copyright issues none of the roms since gingerbread have them preinstalled so you must flash them separately.

After you have installed the rom in CWM now again choose zip from sdcard and navigate to gapps and flash that...and reboot, you're all done.

I just started all this and I'm wondering what firmware I have. when I got the phone, it was GB. Then I got the OTA and went to ics. do I download the 3.0.2 or the 4.0.4? and also, I cant turn my phone on to get it to debug mode. Is that an issue?

if you are trying to download the cab then just get the latest one. Which would be based off 4.0.4

As long as you can get your phone into download mode the cab should work

Thanks so much. I'm waiting for the cab file to finish downloading right now, then I can start the process. It sure is nice to have such awesome support here!

I'm at the point where i'm in download mode and I just entered my cab file. now theres ????????????? question marks all over and its saying pc sync programs not found

I'm sorry but I'm not much help at trouble shooting that tool. Neph81 is your best bet. Perhaps someone else can shed some light on things.

Maybe try reinstalling your drivers. Also you could try a different USB port

I'm having no luck yet. I'm trying my desktop computer. I'm gonna post on the other page and see if I get a reply. Thanks

I'm sorry to hear that :/

I can never get it that to work on my pc either. I've used it on my laptop before but have never got it to work on my pc. I hope you get it working though.

Tried it again. This time I FOLLOWED the directions. IT Worked. Thanks again!! I was reading a little about custom roms and as I understood, if I do a custom rom, it will actually root the phone for me and install CWM. Any thoughts?
Update: I have done all this 3 times now so I'm getting to be an expert. It works. But tonight I rooted my phone and it worked. then I went installed rom manager app and flashed CWM. Then right when it goes to reboot into recovery it says superuser has stopped, then it reboots. It says fastboot fastboot. long time no see with LG screen. I read about this a little. is something happening with the bootloader not unlocking properly? It has done this exact thing to me 2 night in a row. VERY frustrating!! Anyone have any thoughts? Greatly appreciated! I cant have this thing stock, not cool
