SMS unreadcount mod, advanced clock widget, my icons, and paper is Pulp Pixels from Simple Desktops :)

Forgive me for being dense, but i'm very new to the world of HTCs and Android. I saw the Raven theme/desktop on your blog, with those custom icons - i see that i can download that (I love it!) but i'm not sure how to install/use it on my phone (Desire S) - is there something else I need to install to be able to use the icons for SMS/email/etc you've created? Thanks in advance for any advice, I appreciate these questions may have been asked before...

I apply my icons to the wallpaper. The icon used for sms unreadcount ticker is just a transparent png applied to the screen - on my 6 column, 10 row setup, I use a 1x1 sms unreadcount on the upper right corner of a single space, the icons I made occupy about 2 units. The best way to line the icons and sms unreadcount up is the figure out the grid you want and replicate it in an imaging program - I make my papers in Gimp/Psp with a grid to represent my layout, so I know that the sms unreadcount ticker fits into the corner of my fourth column line, etc. This should not be launcher dependent at all. Check out the icon thread at xda for updated instructions sometime today. Feel free to PM me if you want some help applying the icons :)

Ah, so you have to download the wallpaper and the icons separately, apply the wallpaper(s), and then apply the icons to their respective widgets? I'm less fussed about where the icons are on the screen. As it happens, downloading that Go Launcher Ex App has just opened my eyes quite a bit to the wonderful world of Android customisation!

Thanks for your help, i'll be sure to check out that blog!

As an afterthought, i'm assuming here that i don't need to have a rooted phone to be doing these things?

You can do all that on Go Launcher.
