If you have Xposed, there's a fix for it. I guess someone got disgusted with it and wrote a code to make it like better. Google got kind of carried away with their material look huh?
Literally hasn't changed in about 2 months its that damn good. Only difference is Google's new search bar that makes it look like a child's playhouse [emoji38]

To really modify your home screen, you should install a custom launcher (Nova prime, Next, Go Launcher, Themer, ect). Then search for themes and/or icon packs for your specific launcher in the Play store. The next step is to use app(s) like zoomer, uccw, etc to create custom widgets. Lots of YouTube videos on how to use these.
