If you buy it from the carrier unlocked and pay full price, do you still have one that's skinned? Or do they give you an unaltered version of the phone?

Yes, if you buy it from the carrier unlocked the phone is still skinned and full of carrier bloatware. I wish they gave us an unaltered version, that would be awesome

Smartshare dedicated app (incredible app that was incredible) is missing and quick menu on stock browser has been removed by google.
Also I have glitchy scrolling, it is not as smooth as it should be on a phone with this kind of specs, does anyone else see this behavior? It seems to be not fully smooth (I am referring to scrolling up and down, etc, animations) No problems with touchscreen (knock on wood)...

No problems with knock feature. No major issues. I love the button placement, I love that you can customize menu button to add notification button.

I wish someone made a ROM image of that, so we can root our carrier bloated device and go back to completely stock version with all the LG goodies on it.. Although, LG has it's own bloatware running in the back, too. Like LG LifePlay, LG Intelligent etc.. But those can at least be disabled very easily, compared to carrier forced apps with no way to remove..

One problem is volume control. When I'm at work listening to music via Google Music or watching youtube, I have to pick up the phone to change the volume. I also wish the front touch buttons would only show up when the screen is touch like with youtube. Last thing, you can only use the knock feature on the a home screen, which I understand but I seem to always want to use the knock off feature when I'm using an app. Dumb, I know. Other than that, love this damn phone.

I rooted it just to get rid of the bloat, so if anybody knows if those top two issues can be fixed without flashing a rom, do share.

you can knock the screen off even when using an app by knocking at the top of the screen in the status bar area.

1. The voice notification tells you who is calling or texting but doesn't stretch to read out the SMS content.

2. The other thing I've noticed is the camera sometimes fails to focus in low light, sometimes focuses flawlessly.

3. I had 3 crash and reboots yesterday. Seems to be due to having widgets (gmail and bbc news) on the lock screen. I removed them and it's been fine since.

Apart from that, I am happy, I've not changed a thing. I use everything stock, including the keyboard, whereas I had changed pretty much evertyhing on the GS3.

The G2's keyboard has a swype like feature that works very well and eliminates the problem of the space bar and I really like having the row of numbers at the top. So convenient for passwords.

You could try to add long press on back button to turn off the screen.
Fix: Root --> install the Xposed framework --> install the G2 Xplosed app --> buy premium (1USD)

That wasn't working after I removed some bloat. Notification bar became visible after I removed something. I'm in the process of restoring bloat one by one to see if it changes anything.

Terrible sound quality on videos taken with the G2. Clearly audible muffled and hissing in the background. It does a great job with voices and picking up loud sounds, but videos taken with nothing but ambient noises are impossible to enjoy due to the background noises. Not to mention the breathing auto focus which might be what's causing those background noises.

Do you have a case on the G2, are all three microphones clear of obstruction?
I just tried it, I think I can hear the hissing in complete silence but I doubt that hissing would be a major concern when there is a lot going on. I will test it indoors with a lot noise tomorrow and another try outdoors. Did you try Audio Zoom? I noticed hissing was a lot less when A.Z. was on.

Will Kit Kat provide a means to auto hide the system front touch buttons? I don't want to root and void warranty to have an additional control over that behavior.

Quiet mode needing to display a status icon when it's scheduled (I don't need it to tell me it's on via that mechanism and use up space there)...

I am also curious about this. However my guess is front touch buttons functionality, including option to add more buttons and modify them is LG's stock functionality most likely will need official update from LG.
Also there is no stable 4.4 custom Rom for G2 yet, keep this in mind when considering rooting and trying to run a custom Rom.

Good Luck.

For those with the sprint variant, has an update been released by either sprint or lg that addresses the digital screechy call distortion yet?

I have the Sprint variant. Just got it yesterday. I have not encountered any call quality issues as of yet. I've made about 15 phone calls in the last day and half as well.

Yes i think the storage is partitioned in such a way that your apps don't go to that space, but instead to another repository that i.t not 32gb in size. There it's also finite ram and running have to fit in ram. Go to settings application, the swipe till you see running apps. Then look at bottom of screen to see available ram. I'm uncertain how you see the display of memory dedicated to storing the apps themselves. I'll have to do some research on that.

I don't think so.
App screen shows 8 used 16 available for me, I never had space related warnings before.

Must be some kind of app trying to reserve space somewhere.

For RAM, isn't android supposed to a manage it automatically?

@bberryhill0: apologies for the poorly worded response I provided previously.

@to serve man: I believe the RAM memory pool to be 2GB used for running apps. I believe the System pool for non-volatile storage of the apps themselves to be on the order of 4GB.

That latter 4GB might come from the 32GB total (on a 32GB model). I'm not positive how the memory is actually implemented to be honest.

the only point I'm trying to make to the OP is that no, I'm fairly certain you cannot load up one of these devices with 16 or 32GB of applications.

I was confused by your description of the App display. You might have a 16GB model.

FWIW: when I run a tool like SysInfo, it reports System storage of 3.2GB, with 650MB free. I'm thinking that is the space where my apps reside.

I would try downloading the SysInfo tool, then maybe remove some downloaded apps, and see how your memory numbers change.

I have 5 GB of apps, I don't think you are limited to 4GB for app storage.
Must be something else.

1)

2) I want the notifications to actually show when the screen is turned off. If I receive a text, instead of just the sound or vibration, I would like the actual text to pop up briefly.

Is there really no pop-up text? That would be a bummer.

Also not happy to hear about the long intervals between notification flashes, thus having to look at the phone for a few seconds to see if there's a message. A steady light would ideal.

Music playback issue on Google play music about every 10 songs. This is on Kitkat after a factory reset and clearing GPM data. It happens on Wifi and H+ and also with pinned music and streamed music. Very annoying and it is the only gripe I have with the phone

Hey, does that remote control feature, and that
put the phone to your ear to answer' feature really work as described, or are there some limitations and drawbacks to them?

The answer by putting the phone to your ear feature was flaky for me and since I always have my ringtone as loud as possible it would blast my ear before it picked up.
