I have been searching the web looking for any further updates on the eagerly anticipated Froyo 2.2 Update for the Samsung Galaxy Europa / i5500 and I came across the following suggestion:
'I think we could update 2.1 to 2.2 thru kies with a regedit trick as done for Galaxy S (www androidauthority com index.php/2010/10/15/samsung-galaxy-s-rededit-trick-to-forece-froyo/) which suggests those steps:
* connect phone with kies mode
* open kies, wait until mount the phone
* press update button, it'll say "no-update available, you're on latest, bla bla..."
* open regedit,
* go to key, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\, then the largest number
