Potential malware avoided?

Lurker
Hi all,

(long time lurker, first time poster)

I just wanted to get your opinions on something I came across this morning.

While flicking through the TV listings on the TVCatchUp app, I accidentally hit an adbar at the bottom. It was along the lines of "Protect your phone - get lookout".

This fired up my browser (Firefox) which went towards a web address that started with "bank15.mi.clicks..." (I don't recall the rest of it).

A pop-up appeared suggesting I install something or other. Needless to say, I picked "cancel" and then closed that browser tab.

I already have Lookout Premium installed on my phone (SGS3) and nothing flagged up, and I don't permit non-Market apps to install. Nevertheless, I'm pretty an*l about security - any opinions on whether I'm at risk of having been compromised?

I know that Google Play at least asks permissions etc before downloading/installing anything, but I don't really understand if/how malicious sites could try and bypass that sort of stuff. Can they?

There is always the possibility of course that it's a simple ad that would have taken me to the Play store, but it didn't feel like it.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks, CrashDamage!

I puffed out my chest, tapped it again and chose "okay" - just took me to the Play store. So no worries - but thanks for the comfort.
