POWER BB User switching over

Newbie
So I just signed up today for the forums. I WAS a power Blackberry user using my storm hard and switched to the Droid X a few months back. I was a dedicated crackberry poster and never even thought of searching to see the android threads until I ordered my HTC T-Bolt and expect delivery today. I was very happy to find this site and immediately registered. I am very happy with my droid experience. Love the multi tasking and internet usage compared to BB. A little disappointed with email alerts and profiles coming from a BB but like they say you can search and find an app and have done so, doesnt work as well as the BB but I can live with it based on the awesome internet and multitasking that doesnt take hours to complete. Former BB users im sure feel the same way. So I just wanted to say hello to everyone and Im sure I will enjoy this site. AND I KNOW SEARCH BEFORE YOU POST... LOL

Be Safe Everyone !!:p

Welcome to Android. You will love the internet experience you get with Android. It is the reason I switched from Nokia. For work, I use a BB, so I understand the downgrade in messaging capabilities. Push email only works with the Gmail app, so I ended up forwarding my regular email to a Gmail account for the push notifications. It works fairly well.

Definitely don't assume that you're stuck with the stock apps. IMO, that's a huge advantage over the BB.

However, I do miss profiles. There's not direct equivalent on Android. There are profiles apps and they do add some functionality that the BB never had but they don't centralize all alerts (audio, vibrate, LED) for all your apps as the BB did. Overall, it's a small con compared to all the pros in switching to Android, IMO.

How is it a downgrade? You do realize that even on BES, BB email is push-and-reconcile? You can't get true sync on a BB. I went from BES on a BB to ActiveSync on the Droid. I definitely prefer the latter.

It may appear to be a "downgrade" if you used pull (e.g. POP) accounts with BIS. BIS has the ability to automatically adjust polling intervals for pull accounts based on activity that improved email delivery times for pull accounts. There's no BIS equivalent in the Android world though gmail's mail fetcher comes fairly close. The lack of BIS, however, means that you don't have to worry about RIM outages.

Incorrect. Push is available with quite a few apps but you have to have an account that supports push. Gmail, as you mentioned, is push. Accounts that support IMAP idle are push. ActiveSync is push.
