Help Power button not working

imek

Newbie
I search around but doesn't seem many people having the same issue as me, especially for HTC Hero, so I was wondering if anyone else having this issue.

First a little background. I have the Sprint HTC Hero, (unrooted), for a little over a year now. For the first half of the year, I had Invisible Shield all over the phone, including all the buttons. Then I decided to take it off because it was looking really ugly. Thats when the nightmare began to start. The paint on the Power/End button start to peel, and now it is almost all red. Even the Call button, the Search button and Back button are all showing some sign of pealing now. However, this I don't mind so much.

What really bothers me is that the Power/End button is almost not functioning. It first started out with a minor issue, where at times I had to press twice in order to respond. As times goes on, it got worse and worse. Now it barely works. I have to press the Power button numerous times in order to wake the phone up, so now, instead of pressing the Power button, I press the Menu button twice to wake the phone up. To turn the phone off, is even harder. When I press the Power button down for couple seconds, it usually think i'm pressing the search button or the back button. I have to try for at least ten times or more, in order to turn my phone off the right way. I'm worried that the power button will go out very soon. I'm quite sure that this is a hardware issue but I could be wrong.

Note: I have taken the phone to Sprint store for repair during warranty period, but because the sticker in the phone has turned pink, they said they could not fix the phone.

Anybody having this same issue or having any suggestion on what to do? Thank in advance

Did you in fact soak the phone? I ask because my wife dropped her Moment in a puddle and the exact same problem arose. After drying out for a couple of days in a baggie of rice, it worked fine again except the power button. I sprayed some tv tuner cleaner in there as well as I could and it made it work a whole lot better. Not perfect, but better. Might be worth a try.

Use tv tuner cleaner or electronic contact cleaner or Deoxit Contact Cleaner. A trip to Radio Shack should yield what you need. Good luck!

The phone did not get water damage. The reason why I believe the sticker had turn pink is because of the few times that I have brought my phone in to the bathroom while I was taking a shower, the moisture must have trigger the sticker to change color.

I have had that same problem and they replaced the phone.
The little popit, or bubble, under the button slides on the circuit board and gets out from under the button. My replacement is now doing it.
My repair center said it was a common problem.
Good Luck!
