Help Power/lock Button Issue on GS3

Hello!

So, I've been having issues with the power button on my Galaxy S3 lately. The button itself is now very sensitive and even if I brush my finger over the button very lightly it will register. Sometimes when I set the phone down it will act as if it is being pressed. When I do press the button it will never go to sleep now though; it will either do nothing or display the phone options menu repeatedly. I had to download an app to allow me to lock the screen.

I've restarted the phone several times and it didn't help. When I took the battery out and put a different one in the phone actually started on its own without me pressing the power button.

This definitely sounds like a hardware issue to me. I've read that it is advised to try a factory reset to see if it fixes the issue.

Should I attempt a factory reset, or would it be a waste of time?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Waste of time and I'm a big fan of factory data resets.

If it's being triggered just putting the phone down, it's hardware.

Look to see if anything foreign is jammed in with the power button, otherwise, it's service time - sorry.

That's what I was afraid of! Guess I'll have to look into fixing it when I have time.

Thank you
