practical uses for NFC other than purchasing

[fangorious]

Cars could use it for rapid handset pairing for music, hands-free, navigation, etc..

Free wi-fi providers could use it for a quick key-exchange to connect to their wlan.

I know bump already does contact sharing but NFC could handle it.

Google has demonstrated using NFC for rapid bluetooth handset-to-handset pairing. This could extend for multi-player gaming. Or setting up file transfer with your desktop computer.

So many possibilities. Any other ideas?

I use cards with NFC chips on public transport (metro, bus, tram) and to enter my office.
These functions could be implemented in the phones.

NFC business cards could be cool. Just scan it with your phone and all the info would be uploaded into your contacts.

Yeah, I guess it would. I don't even have business cards, just brainstorming.

At first. If it takes off itll get cheaper.

phone -> business card -> phone

Why not just:

phone -> phone

Hmm. it feels kinda weird taking out your phone to bump with another phone.

Now if we have NFC on beer glasses....
