Well, thats me just pre-ordered my ne Xperia Z2 !

My last 4 phones have been Android HTC flavour.
I had been planning on getting the new Sammy GS5, but to be honest, I was a bit disappointed.
Seeing as one of the main things I use on my phone is the camera - taking pics of my 2 Great Danes - this seems to fit the bill. I`ve also seen the camera lens add ons, think I may need to get one of those....ooh, and the fitness band thingy, and......

Anyhoo, hope I`m not the only one to order aZ2 :)

Got mine coming from Handtec, they were the cheapest I could see for sim free.
 
I'm in the UK, i'm on contract with Vodafone and was due an upgrade! I'm super excited to get it, seems like a much better handset than the Galaxy S4 and IMO S5.

Did you consider the new HTC One? I did but the waterproof IP58 and camera was too good, I knew the HTC would be weaker in that area.
 
Yeah, thought about the new HTC, while I understand the argument about pixels and sensors regarding the cameras, I heard that they are sticking with the 4MP, and if I want to print off a biggish pic, I`ll be struggling....and to be honest, I`m not that impressed with the camera on my current One.

I agree with you about the IP rating, I think its a very good idea - especially after my girlfriend trashed her HTC OneX in water a few months ago.

I`m in the UK too - I always buy my phones sim free in case I want to move about, found it handy in the past not being locked to a carrier when going abroad if you want to use a local sim whilst there.
 
I was really positive I was getting the new HTC One this year but with the leaks I can't say it doesn't look like a good device just the Z2 fits my needs better and who knows maybe 2015 HTC One will tick all the boxes.

Vodafone don't lock their smartphones (only iPhones) so that's a major plus to me and I like my tariff and should be getting a free Bravia 32 inch TV so suits me :)


Do you use cases or screen protectors? Any other accessories?

I've got the official case already which seems really nice quality, ordered the DK 36 magnetic dock and front and back protectors. Hate my phones getting scratched up! Considering a magnetic charge cable but unsure if the ones for the Z1 work.
 
Another thing that p`d me off about HTC was their delivery logistics....Had to wait an age last year because they had so many shortages...I mean, if you cant fulfill orders in one territory, dont go releasing in another at the same time to spread your stock even more thinly !!
I read last night that Sony have suspended their China announcement and only released the Z2 tablet for now (which I have also ordered).

I saw the Voda offer and was tempted, but I dont like 24 month contracts - I like to upgrade every year.

I`ll probably get a full body skin from bestskinsever, really cheap and good quality, I`m like you, I dont like scratching up my phones - they end up looking new when they get handed down to my girlfriend!

Accessories wise, I`m getting a free magnetic dock with the tablet, so not sure if that`ll fit the phone too, I may need to get a seperate one, I`ll be getting a life band, I didnt know that they sell magnetic cables, so may have to look at that as I dont really want to keep messing with the waterproof cover for the USB hole.

Any idea what the write speed of 4k video will be to micro SD card? The fastest card looks to be the Sandisk Extreme Plus, but you pay for it. I asked Sony on live chat, they just kept repeating that it depends on the card (?) she didnt really understand what I meant, I dont think.
 
...I forgot to say, I read theres a rumour that they are working on a wireless charging case for the Z2 as well..

Yeah i've heard about the rumored delays lets hope it's not the case.

I'm on a 12 month contract and they changed the terms and conditions to allow 12 month contracts to get the TV too so I was really happy with that. Love upgrading annually too !

The tablet is thinner than the phone so i'm not sure if the dock will work but you never know.

Yeah I don't want to be opening the flaps all the time so it doesn't mess with how waterproof it is either.

No idea about the write speed of 4k, my memory card is a Samsung 64gb one think the write speed is 20mb/s so hopefully will be ok.

The wireless charging case will probably add too much bulk for my liking and cost a fortune too so probably just avoid that one but it would be cool :D

How have the previous Z's fared against water if a user constantly opens the flap to access the microUSB to charge? I haven't kept up too close of an eye on Sony phones due to the lack of popularity (and accessibility) in the U.S. I used to use my K790a and was obsessed with Sony phones before and after that up to the X10, but haven't kept up. While I'll likely get the dock/magnetic charger, I want to feel at ease when I have to use the port...

Also, a side question: I understand IP58, but why do a lot of reviewers say IP55/IP58? Is the IP55 when the port is not covered?

From what I understand, the first digit after IP relates to dust-proofness and the second number is water resistance, 5 being resistent and 8 being waterproof, I`m guessing they quote both to show it hits both specs (?)

As for the covers, I expect they`ll be kinda fiddley and theres always the chance of not replacing it properly after charging - I`m paranoid like that though...and that WILL be the time I drop it in the sink.

I see that the Sony website has removed the pre-orders option, I`m hoping thats because they`re managing their flow of stock as opposed to delays for everyone.

I preordered from Clove. Does anyone know if they are reputable?

Also I called Sony store here and they said if my phone breaks down I cannot bring it in since it is a european version is that correct?
 
If correct, I'm done, it's the S5 for me. I'm not comfortable with the lack of support & accessories for this as opposed to it having been released in the U.S.

I agree. The phone is so nice though that Im not thinking straight.
Negricare from NegriElectronics will insure the phone for 2 years, including lost or theft.
 
I called Square Trade and they said they wouldn't be able to cover it.
Sony said I get a manufacturer's warranty but not an extended one. They said I have to wait for a US release for that but they dont know when that might be
 
And then the problem becomes (with whoever Negricare is), how long would you be without a phone if repair was needed?

This is what scares me, and what might make me not purchase this device. I don't really mind importing the phone from these guys, but if I ever drop it I'm toast. Looking at OnePlus or G3 I suppose.

Release of the Z2 is delayed until May....not actual date - just May.

I was buying into the whole Xperia experiance with a tablet as well, that was supposed to be shipped last week from Sony, but that didnt appear either, so I`ve cancelled the whole lot.

It really hacks me off when they cant back up what they announce. I may get when they finally get released, but they`ve tarnished their reputation for me somewhat now.
 
Pre-order done.

Missed the first batch that will arrive with tele2 in Sweden. Mine will arive in my hands on the 29th April.

Stoked.

Easily the best combination of features and style in this round of flagships. Also comes with a free smartband... not that I know what I'll do with it?

I've just ordered mine from Clove. Delivery sometime mid May. I know its frustrating when stock levels don't materialize. HTC were spot on this year. I ordered the M8 contract free from Phones 4 U on the day of announcement got it a day later. Liked the phone it had some good features but the camera thing got me. Why stay with 4mp. The camera on the front was a higher mp. I understand the larger pixels but this is a step backwards. I have sent it back now. Sense 6 or 6th sense is good. I had the original One before and even had a HTC Hero.

I have also ordered the Z2 Tablet from Sony mobile. Delivery should be 14th April I will wait and see, it was in stock for a short time on the Sony store and I tried to order a number of times. Gave up in the end but have noticed they have gone back to a 28th April delivery.I ended up having to phone Sony mobile to stop them cancelling my order this morning. I also ordered the new A6000, it was on pre-order from amazon for delivery on the 14th April but the Sony store had them in stock so cancelled amazon. It should come tomorrow or Friday. I really like Sony equipment and I think now finally they have hit the mark with the android devices. I have not had a tablet or phone from them but there is a 30 day window to try everything out. I have an Ipad at the moment and cant wait to come back to android.

I was going to go for an S5. I had the S4 but it is so gimmicky. Got a nexus 5 when they came out last year as I was fed up with waiting for Samsung to upgrade the os. I'm hoping that Sony will be quick to update their software (has anyone any experience from the Z1?). Vanilla android is void of any showstopping apps. Apart from Hi Google! so have now got fed up with it.

Its a shame that you cancelled your orders I am looking forward to having devices that match. I am getting a magnetic charger for 1p with the tablet and free headphones and a free wireless Bluetooth speaker with the phone. I can wait 6 weeks for the phone I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Its your own fault for being so up on technology and ordering when it was announced at MWC lol . I now try to not visit sites so I do not pre-order items for months and months and then like you get disappointed over a few week delay.

If it makes you feel any better (it probably won't) Sony are getting the phones to the carriers!
 
WEEEEEELLLLLLLLL....as it goes, I`m with Voda on a sim only contract and I was checking my account and found myself being sucked into their live chat about the Z2 and stock levels. I was assured on live chat and verbally on the phone that they will have enough stock to get me a phone within a few days after the release on the 11th - not sure whether to believe it or not, but I have it in writing, and I`m eligible for the TV too. On a 12 month contract it`ll work out about
