The two weaknesses the Samsung displays had are fixed with the N4.

Pentile is irrelevant with Qhd

The saturated colors must be gone or optitional due to the 98% color coverage.

I had some time to kill this afternoon so I stopped by Best Buy and AT&T since they are in the same shopping strip. I gave the N4 a thorough inspection and compared the screen to my Nokia 1520. I'm still not impressed with the build of the N4 and the screen is dim compared to the 1520. The whites just aren't very white. I did the same thing with the iPhone 6+ at the AT&T store. It's screen is much closer to the Nokia. The whites are very white and the brightness is very bright. Unless someone simply must have and Android there is no reason to choose the N4 over the 6+. imo.

Not sure why this would be posted on a Note 4 thread.

(Sniff sniff, troll ?)

The only issue with the Note 4's screen is the poor brightness. It's still a dim screen compared to the better LCD screens out there (M8, and especially the iPhone Screens for example) - not much brighter than the Note 3's screen (and less bright than the GS5's screen - they probably did that to save battery life, though...). Not really sure why they continue to use such dim screens. Resolution-wise, I don't personally see much difference between it and the Note 3's screen. I did notice it was slightly brighter, though, which is one thing I mentioned in the other thread after I played with one at Best Buy.

As for it being an issue, that is unlikely because the phone is using an appropriate SoC for that screen resolution. That's something LG didn't do, and why their screen ended up as an Achilles Heel in that device.

My Note 3 has been an exemplary smartphone.

Phone performance is the best I've experienced, along with that of my Nexus 5. Not a dropped call in the year that I've been using it.

I plan on buying a Nexus 6 instead of a Note 4, the 5.9" display is ideal for me.

Thankfully my own comparison, the reviews and lab analysis does not concur with your opinion on the N4. :) Your opinion appears to be a profound statistical anomaly, outlier, bad data point, outside the bell curve, out of tolerance, etc.

it can go up to 750 nits according to display mate in automatic brightness mode.

Agreed.
I don't think I will agree with someone who is contradicting all the reviews, etc.

My assessment is based on real world side by side comparisons and my extensive hands on experience with pretty much every high end smartphone made in the last 3 years. It does not require your agreement.

That goes both ways ;) You posted and I did not agree through my vast experience over many years as well and credible media reviews. Hey, I had the NGage! :) ;)

My personal comparison of several devices and the N4 only showed one thing and that is the G3 has a poor display, but that contradicts some reviews too. The same ones that claim the G3 has great battery life, but failed to point out their screen on time was short for the reviews ;)

BTW, I hate Nokia due to their craptastic N600 that I bought. Worse smartphone I have ever owned and had the absolute worse signal reception of any device. Great camera and audio out quality though. Shame the rest of it was a demon spawn of bad.

Grudge = Nokia

Point taken.

Nokia has come a long way but I am by no means married to the brand. The 1020 and 1520 are well built and have great cameras but it seems the the MSFT buyout of Nokia has had an unexpected effect on Windows phone. I'm seeing less development, less interest and no high end phones this year. I'm not sure what they are planning for 2015 but right now they are barely treading water. It's a shame really, WP8.1 is a joy to use and the 6" screen on my 1520 is fantastic. However, if you want a nice selection of high quality apps you're out of luck with WP. I have the basics on my phone but that's it.

The Lumia Icon was a high end phone. It being exclusive to one carrier doesn't change the fact that spec for spec it was on par with almost all the major Android flagships out there when it was released and for months after it was released.

And frankly phones like the M8, S5, and G3 aren't much better (if better) from a hardware standpoint than the Icon/930 is.

The issue with Nokia phones isn't necessarily that they didn't release any flagships, it's only that they were too big into Carrier Deals and their release timing for devices (Flagships, especially) is pretty poor (IMO) - especially for a platform that is struggling to gain traction or truly break through.

They need to get the jump on their competitors with their competitive flagships, and they quite frankly need to go above and beyond to give people more reason to consider them. Not putting an SD Card Slot in the Icon was a mistake, as was the smaller battery (unforgivable, given the size of the device and what other OEMs are able to fit in their devices).

My 1520 has the same specs as the icon and also has a SD card slot, but it has been out for about a year. WP doesn't necessarily need more power but it would be nice to see some new phones released for more carriers than Verizon. They make a GSM version of the icon called the 930 but it hasn't been made a available in the US...

I've not seen any new Win Phone devices at all this year. Think Nokia have given up here.

HtC released a WP version of the M8. So far its only on Verizon. Other than that its been pretty discouraging for WP fans.

I just read an article about a possible Droid Turbo variant for AT&T. Interesting, very interesting

I'd buy it. 5.2 is a good size and if it really does have a 3900mah battery it'll last forevah!!

I just hope it doesn't have those raised speaker and mic grills like the new MotoX. Not sure what Moto is thinking there.
