I have it set to on, but it still isnt working. I'm not sure what im doing wrong i just want to have auto spell check etc on.

there does not seem to be a System-Wide spell check feature on the phone (unlike the original Danger Sidekick devices). Three are free apps, but most require copy & pasting the text you want to check so they are kinda pointless. Haven't seen any system-wide spell check app.
SwiftKey X (paid app from the Market) can add predictive text to both the soft keyboard and the hard keyboard.
