Help "Preparing SD Card"

jdh1993

Lurker
I literally just upgraded to Android 5.0 via official OTA. After rebooting, my phone just has a constant notifaction that says "Preparing SD card. Checking for errors.."

I've taken the SD card out and tried to remount it. Same thing happens. I've rebooted. I've rebooted, taken the SD card out, and put it in again whilst running. Same problem. I have a lot of apps and crucial data on there. What's going on?

I assumed it was just a 5.0 bug, but I can't find anything on the internet about this particular bug anywhere. So I'm kind of wondering if the update ****ed up my phone somehow.

Thanks.

For why you may be experiencing this problem, see #1.2 and #2.4 of the S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide. When you move apps to your SD card the data is left on the internal phone memory and this can cause problems during the update. You can either copy the info off of your SD card and then re-format it in the phone and copy the info back... but not settings. Alternatively, you can do a full Factory Data Reset with a full wipe as described in post #2 of the link.
