Actually I note that today Evan Blass (aka evleaks) is supporting the story that the final design is different from the pictures we've seen, which gives it a bit more credibility than a claim by an unnamed source (he doesn't actually say that he's seen it himself, but at least we know his record on these things).

Ok - I'm gonna whine. :D

Extreme placement of the speakers is going to kill a lot of case options - along with screen to the L/R edges if true. :(

I'm totally a must-have-case kind of guy though.

I agree that the speakers and edges are going to make cases rather tricky. But I have to say, it looks pretty awesome :D

For any who don't know, that second picture is a concept design rather than a real render, though it does rather resemble the description.

Actually if the speakers really are pushed as far to the edge as in the Nexus 9 then that would appear incompatible with the case pictures/renders that were doing the rounds last week. I guess there's a lesson about rumours there, one way or another.

Personally I'd like a near edge-to-edge display because it would make the phone narrower. Every time I pick up a Z3 Compact I'm reminded how much better a 6.5cm wide phone fits my hands than a 7cm wide one. But if the rumoured dimensions are accurate (about 1mm narrower than the M8) it's not going to be edge-to-edge unless the display is larger than the 5" everyone seems to be expecting.

We're still waiting on the One Max replacement - add to that the Asian variant we've seen in the past with dual sims and anything is possible.

Especially with a mid-range MediaTek processor at a lower speed.

I hope this isn't the m9 plus we've been waiting for. Has HTC ever used a mediatek processor in their phones?

Last year the news and rumors were full of stories that they would in order to be price competitive.

When I bought my first HTC they had at least 35 models available for sale worldwide, and not just cosmetic differences.

Others have come out with lower spec'd models with bigger screens to capture that part of the midrange market - I don't know if that new rumor true at all - but I don't see a threat from that to the high end market.

Look at the other midrange offerings now - this is no big deal if true.

In my opinion.

In support of the theory HTC is attempting to develop their midrange lineup, this article suggests that it could be an addition to the Desire series.

Also, apparently the m9 passed through FCC WiFi and NFC certification a few days ago. I hope the m9 plus is not far behind!

Final M9 and M9 plus courtesy of evleaks. Upleaks is claiming it is another fake

Seems as though Upleaks changed his position. First he said it was another fake by HTC, now he's implying the leaks are correct: "@evleaks, I'm not match for you..."

The back of the phone isn't shown. The back is the only side that hasn't been described by other leaks. There is still the whole duo camera/square camera thing left out. Also antenna lines not matching. Makes this leak pretty suspicious

Yes, we have seen MTK processors in some Chinese market HTC handsets.

Those renders are something you could have put together from the descriptions plus claimed shots of a M9 Plus prototype. But they are also a plausible extrapolation of the current design, and evleaks has better form than many. So possible, but they are fairly small rendered images, so I might be careful about reading too much into fine details.

If true it's interesting to see the grey speaker boxes under the glass. I'd have thought that making them black to render the whole front featureless when the screen was off would be the obvious approach, but I guess that risks being too monolithic, and this does have more of a visual reference to the M7 and M8. Well, we'll see whether it's true, and if so what the reality looks like. Another month, eh?

First time I'm eagerly anticipating a new phone since the gnex thread. I miss the excitement of reading 20+ new posts after loading the Phandroid app. Simpler times...

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I hope that they DO NOT move the location of the power button. I do not want it to be on the side of the device.

I also hope that they offer the device clad in black or a VERY dark color. I will not accept an alternative. I'm all for having new and different colors on the market, just don't forgoe giving the classic black option for those that want it (day one, regardless of carrier).
Black or bust!
