Apparently, over on XDA some HTC insider confirmed this render as "almost identical" to the final m9. Renders for both a 5.0" and 5.2" screen size are given as the size hasn't been confirmed.

His mockups of the m8 last year were spot on, granted we had more to go on that time.

If evleaks' renders are to scale they do seem to have the same screen size (using the vertical dimension of the display for comparison). But those are renders, not a side-by-side photo, so not proof of that.

Actually apart from those renders, the prototype photos and nowhereelse's early claims of a 5.2" screen (with an HTC logo on the bottom bezel - quite consistent with the M9 Plus rumours) an awful lot of the rest comes from one source. It will be interesting to see what turns out to be accurate in the end.

For some odd reason I like to read the comment section on websites. Someone wrote they don't want a phone that looks like a cyclops. I think I've heard it all regarding what people dislike. I'm getting this phone period.

The guy who created the above renders did a Photoshop comparison of evleaks render and he says the screen sizes are 5.2 and 5.5. Grain of salt- it is a Photoshop comparison based off a small render.

The other uncertainty is the assumption that the leaked dimensions are accurate. The source of those dimensions was the same upleaks who's reliability you were doubting earlier. If they are not accurate then 5" screen for the M9 and a slightly smaller device is also possible.

Actually I can't see a way of using evleaks' renders to infer a larger screen size for the Plus. Hamdir argues that the side bezels are larger in the Plus render, but if the two are to scale that would just suggest that they have the same size screen (comparing vertical screen sizes sans bezel) but that the Plus is wider. Or if we assume different screen sizes we're back to assuming they are not to scale, in which case you can't infer very much about screen size by comparing them. I think hamdir is mainly arguing that assuming the dimensions are correct he thinks 5.2" for the M9 is possible, and relying on other leaks to suggest a larger screen for the Plus.

One other observation: the original source for the Plus being 5.5" was the same upleaks who is now saying 5.2". Right now I think the strongest argument for a 5.5" Plus is not any leak but the fact that phone + phablet would be a more conventional release strategy than phone + similar-sized phone with a higher-res screen and a fingerprint scanner.

The dimensions used were taken from the leaked prototype phone. The argument there is the prototypes are encased in the m9 housing, but they have a decoy front panel that's glued on to preserve the design.

I believe the argument was that eyeballing the screen size is misleading due to the mismatching bezel sizes on the phones. The Photoshop comparison showed the 5.5 screen size, although it is a comparison based on a small render. Another argument for the 5.5 phablet is the leaked prototype. Although, the argument of using a m9 device with an altered front housing doesn't work as well here as the back of the phablet device has a circular camera while the others have a square camera.

Specs of the prototype, assuming accurately reported, are a good argument - better than any discussion of renders.

I assumed that the M9 prototypes used M8 front panels (maybe very slightly modified) and screens, rather than stuck-on decoys. If you remember the 2013 M7 prototypes used One X screens, right down to having 3 capacitative buttons when the final unit only had 2 (whether all 3 functioned I don't know).

I'll be sort of relieved if true: 5" + 5.5" gives more differentiation between the devices, which seems a safer strategy to me.

Breaking news!!!!!

Upleaks has confirmed the HTC Hima will go by the name HTC One m9!!!

Thank God. The big mystery has been revealed!

Years ago I posted the top 10 release rumors and claimed that no phone would deliver before all occurred. I've googled for that until my fingers hurt.

Anyway - the fights over who's leak is the best leak - pretty sure was on the list lol.

With rapid charging coming standard with most of the other high level phones coming out now, I'd think they'd have to follow suit with this phone.

Where are the case leaks for the m9 ultra? We've seen quite a few cases for the m9 now, but none for the ultra.

Good question!

If it's included then fast charging will have come of age as a standard.

I haven't been keeping up with what the other manufacturers have been releasing or offering as of late. Not sure if they have been including the quick chargers out of the box.

I know how unlikely it is but I'd still love to see the return of a camera shutter button.

It would be cool even if they didn't provide a real hardware key, and instead had an invisible touch sensitive area on the side of the phone that recognized touches only when held in portrait and in the camera application.

The magnet sensor is more or less invisible. Same with the embedded NFC chip. Why not have an ergonomically placed touch sensor for the camera?
