I wouldn't be surprised if this is HTC trolling. There have been so many leaks... I have a feeling HTC is going to surprise us a bit... That and the video shows a power software button next to the multitasking button, which makes no sense at all. If it is the same body, that isn't a bad thing. It was a wonderful design. The only problem I had was the terrible LED implementation. You could barely see it and it had a poor viewing angle for notifications (why I got the Moto 360 to go with it).

Yeah, they keep missing tricks with the logo: it should have been a third capacitative button on the M7, and it should have been a notification LED on the M8 ;)

I'm typing this on a phone with only 2 buttons, so we know HTC are willing to experiment with button layouts. If I were an optimist I'd hope for configurable soft buttons out of the box.

I'm going to be honest. I don't want an M9 right now. It looks like my M7/M8. I have a feeling these leaks are legitimate. I want something new and fresh. If you have the previous two models they look the same, except one is bigger.

I'm confused about what I will buy if HTC does not change the look of their phone. May just wait until next year to say the least.

Why would a company waste money on a fake video?

The "plus" in m9 plus signifies a larger device, not merely an upgraded device
The rumored .2" increase in the m9 plus doesn't really warrant a "plus" moniker.

I believe we'll see an m8i, m9, phablet m9, and wearable. I know there have been rumors of only 3 devices being unveiled, but they've been wrong before.

Just wishful thinking.

I'm on the wishful thinking side that the video is either of the M8i, or it is meant to throw people off. I would like to think that HTC did their homework and know some of the things users don't like. Personally, I was going to get the M8, but with the low res camera, i stuck with my S3 for another year. Since i have to pay full price to keep my unlimited data... I want a phone, that will last me a few years. If the new One is not that special, I'll either wait it out for the LG G4, or save some cash and as a stop gap buy the LG G3. The camera is fairly decent on my S3, but im soooo tired of touchwiz- though i did change to a different launcher.

They could have sent decoy units to an ad agency to get concept ads made. I think that sort of thing is done often enough and isn't considered a waste of money. Ads are prototyped iow.

Lmao

Now, there's a picture in the comments here I found interesting -

Yeah, I posted that one over in the S6 forum.

An unexpected finding, assuming that is a genuine engineering sample and reflects the final design, is that there is no sign of a micro-SD slot. That really would be a surprising move, especially after several other manufacturers have reinstated it.

So HTC being criticised for re-using the same design while Samsung give up both removable battery and removable storage? I feel like I've wandered into the Twilight Zone... ;)

What is up with that software/navigation power button? I refuse to believe HTC would ever implement that

Jeff Gordon's tweet says "The best part of HTC's March 1st launch are the parts you have NO IDEA are coming"

What could he mean by the "parts" (plural). We know about the wearable tracker and the phone leaked in the videos. There have to be at least 2 other "parts" we don't know about. He could be referring to a redesigned flagship and phablet flagship based on Evleaks's renders.

Could be a watch.

Why not?

It's pretty handy if the power button is out of the way.

I don't believe the power button on the right side, middle.

I always have a piece of hand or a finger there.

A power button in that location would lead to accidental touches. The back button on my note 2 is in that location and I accidentally touch it all the time. On the flip side, the hard power button is on the side, and while my hand rests near it, it never accidentally gets pressed since I have to use much more force to press the hard power button.

A watch in lieu of/ in addition to the fitness tracker might make sense. But the tweet said "parts". There would still have to be something else

Silly as it looks to some, I like my armored kickstand case and finally took to using the holster - after 6 months of that, I quite prefer it. Not sure how a side mounted power button will do.

I'm constantly going screen on (gesture) and screen off. I got to wondering why I needed to stress the power button all of the time, or go looking for it because my screen goes 360, my phone is often upside down. A long press soft button really doesn't suck. It doesn't power down, just screen off and sleep.

Maybe the side button is a shutter release when the camera is on and the soft power button is just a transient, when the camera is on for example.

If it exists because that whole shop job could be trolling.

Parts?

I'm looking forward to some better software parts, especially with the camera.

I'd be more pleased if the originally rumored Prime were what's coming.

Without the alleged fingerprint scanner in the shape of the Samsung hard button. (I know Sammy lovers often defend it but I hate everything about it.) I can't believe that they would copy such an obviously Samsung visual cue, so I don't believe the other so-called leaks on that account either.

The only complaint I've heard about the m8 power button is that it should be moved to the side. The new leaks fix that. Never heard of a malfunctioning power button on the m8 due to stress but i don't know much about that.

If it were a long press power button, I don't see the need for a dedicated software power button. Just set it up so that long press on one of the other three buttons turns the screen off. I think in the "leak" the power button was shown while on the home screen so I guess a temporary button like you suggested would be okay. It would just make more sense to long press one of the other buttons so that the screen could be turned off from any app.

Locating the power button has never been a hassle for me

I don't mind a hardware button on the front (fingerprint scanner). Also, the front plate on the leaked phablet version could just be a temporary cover.

Here's another on that we'll find out on Sunday - IF it's in the S6 - it would answer why the memory wouldn't need to be expanded.
