Preserving Free Apps

Right now, there is a free App in the market until the end of this month. Usually it's $9.99 for this app.

Is there a way to get the .apk file for an app. Because if I need to redownload this again after Jan, it won't be free.

Mind telling us what it is? Once you download or purchase an app, it is tied to your Google account so you can redownload it again as much as you want without having to buy it again, even if you change phones. Having said that, you can use a program such as Titanium Backup to backup the apk, but this requires root access in order to work.

Astro File Manager will allow you to make a backup of the apk. Why would you need to redownload it later? Don't uninstall it and you're good.

I assumed that if you uninstall it you loose the "free-ness" of it and you'd have to pay if you re-download it.

I also assumed that just keeping the .apk and reinstalling that later wouldn't give you the app free again. I guess it would install the version that you had saved for free, but when an update came up, the market wouldn't allow you to update that for free.

Are both of those assumptions correct or does your purchase history remain even if you uninstall the app.

In this case, why not just not uninstall the app and you are good.
