Closing borders isn't something I consider at the top of my personal political priority list (healthcare wins that spot), but I don't actually have a problem with rational international immigration control; we live in complicated times.

The action this weekend, however, was clearly intended not only to fulfill campaign promises, but to flamboyantly piss off the rest of the world. He's succeeding. Some might call it "sending a strong message"; I see the implementation and nature of this blanket ban as (at best) ignorant, reckless, and short-sighted foreign policy. Banning existing greencard holders? Dual nationals resident elsewhere in the world? Young children with (legal resident) parents already in the US?

In the meantime, other parts of the world aren't wasting any time preparing for retaliation:

when its their birthday, they buy cakes for the office like everyone else does.



(Btw... Wasn't Clinton talking about illegal immigrants in the 1995 speech rather than refugees... which are a completely different category of people)

“Our government has a responsibility to defend our borders, but we must do so in a way that makes us safer and upholds all that is decent and exceptional about our nation.

“It is clear from the confusion at our airports across the nation that President Trump’s executive order was not properly vetted. We are particularly concerned by reports that this order went into effect with little to no consultation with the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security.

“Such a hasty process risks harmful results. We should not stop green-card holders from returning to the country they call home. We should not stop those who have served as interpreters for our military and diplomats from seeking refuge in the country they risked their lives to help. And we should not turn our backs on those refugees who have been shown through extensive vetting to pose no demonstrable threat to our nation, and who have suffered unspeakable horrors, most of them women and children.

“Ultimately, we fear this executive order will become a self-inflicted wound in the fight against terrorism. At this very moment, American troops are fighting side-by-side with our Iraqi partners to defeat ISIL. But this executive order bans Iraqi pilots from coming to military bases in Arizona to fight our common enemies. Our most important allies in the fight against ISIL are the vast majority of Muslims who reject its apocalyptic ideology of hatred. This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security.”

Anyway... from what I could see, it seems Mr Graham and Mr Trump didn't appear that dissimilar on foreign policy (apologies for not being able to give examples... I can't see the article again until I purchase a subscription).

After his failed campaign, during the primaries, he seems only trying to remain in the spotlight.

the only thing he has kept solid on... him making a profit from his presidency ....
anything that has or would affect his pocket... he will keep steady ..
 
So far the people who voted for Trump are getting exactly what he promised, the people who voted against him are saying "I told you so". and the people who didn't vote are out in the streets protesting. Young folks and old better wake up and start taking voting seriously again. Only an estimated %58 of Americans voted this year in the US.

If President Trump does a years worth of Executive Orders in one week does that mean we can have another election in a month? He compares himself to Lincoln but Lincoln only averaged 12 per year. I'm pretty sure President Trump is far from finished with these EOs.

Well... Now that he's signed the paperwork he's not needed for a couple of weeks, so they've sent him off on vacation and the business of running the country will carry on without him.....
 
I don't get this idea of an executive order, and how it fits in with a democratically elected government. Seems like the President can ultimately force through just about anything he wants. Roosevelt apparently issued over 3500 exec orders!
The orders are subject to legal scrutiny, but still.. isn't the point of congress to debate issues of law? Looks like exec orders steamroller over that process.
 
Most of FDR's EOs created jobs and conservation areas and where benificial to the citizens of the United States.. I'll admit that Japenese Internment thing was foul though. Here's how EOs and Presidential Directives should be used. Check out this article about EOs and Presidential Directives from Heritage.org. It's a medium long read but it will positively help your understanding of these issues.
