Help Prevail USB port not working. Can't Root

I was given this phone when my other one enjoyed a dip in a waterfall.

It is on the FF19. I know i have to use odin to root this phone, but the usb port is broken. I have 2 batteries which i alternate on an external charger.

This is a long shot, but where can i find an older build as an "update.zip" which will be flashable in the stock recovery, which would enable me rooting thw phone without a usb connection?

Really, i just want to get rid of the bloatware that's all. But once rooted id like to explore the ROMS although not necessary. At least until i can afford another, newer phone
 
You can't achieve root with the "update.zip"..... There is NOOOOOO other way to root the Prevail than using Odin. If your USB is broken, you might need to look into fixing it, which requires some soldering I believe....

sure, i understand. i was just thinking by getting an update.zip with the previous build FA16, which would enable me later do no-pc root. thanks, i will look into fixing it
 
There have been several people here who have replaced their charging/USB port. From what I've read, it's not that hard or expensive if you are willing to get your hands a little dirty and solder it. Good luck. The Prevail is a nice phone. So nice that I sold my first one and ended up getting another for my wife as her first Android phone. She didn't like the touch screen so I ended up with it and she ended up with another gift. Heh, it was a win win in my opinion. Lol :D
