Prevent screen lock - not just bypass

Hi all, I've tried so many app's over the last couple of days that claim to stop the screen from locking but they have all just bypassed the lock screen... Well, they've tried to anyway. These kind of work arounds don't actually stop my phone from locking in the first place though.

My phone is a W008+ iPhone clone with Android 2.3.3. When it's charging, the screen will time out and switch off; But it doesn't lock. So I can hit any key to bring the screen back on and as it wasn't locked in the first place, I'm taken straight back to where I was.

When not charging, I get the same behaviour for ~2 or 3 seconds... Any longer and it locks forcing me to use the power key and swipe the lock screen along with any other security measures I may have in place.

What I'd like is to be able to set the 'lock' timeout in the way that I can set the 'screen' timeout. This is obviously possible but the question is: How far will I have to go to get this functionality?

Is there a setting I've missed? I'm very new to Android so there's lots I don't know yet.
Are there any app's that can really do this? Maybe this would need a root app?
Or would I need a custom rom?

Any ideas?

No lock does that perfectly on my phone. have you tried that app? The screen times out yes, but pressing the home or power buttons bring me to the last screen I was on.

No Lock is one of the many (maybe the first) app's I've tried. They all say they 'prevent' locking but the just bypass the lock screen so that you don't have to manually unlock yourself.

I'd list all the app's I've tried for this but there're just so many of them that my mind is a garbled mess with 'em. Chances are if your phone doesn't behave exactly as in the first couple of seconds of normal timeout then it's a work around and not what I'm looking for.

My phone is behaving normally after every time out... so... maybe its just your phone?

I could leave my phone sitting on a table with No Lock activated for about like 15min and when I tap the home button there's no lockscreen.

'No Lock' behaves for me much as it is designed to do. But it doesn't prevent the phone from locking, it just bypasses the lock screen when you unlock it.

I'm not just after some bodge that will allow me to use volume buttons and skip the lockscreen. As I said, there are tons of these and I've tried most of the free ones I could find.

The functionality to control the 'lock' timeout seperately to the 'screen' timeout must be present on my phone as it is exhibited in the few seconds delay between 'screen' timeout and 'lock' timeout. And the fact that the 'lock' timeout is disabled while charging.

To quote my OP, "What I'd like is to be able to set the 'lock' timeout in the way that I can set the 'screen' timeout."

Settings > Location & Security - there should be a 'security lock timer' option, a drop down with times. If you have set your phone up to lock there should be options for how long to delay the lock.
If, indeed, that is what you are asking...

Yes, that sounds exactly what I'm after... but I haven't got it.:( At least it gives me hope that I'm not looking in vain though. :)

I have 2.3.3 on my phone. Which version have you seen 'security lock timer' on?
