Help Preventing Apps From Starting

Is there an app to prevent certain apps on my Galaxy 2 from starting without rooting?
Also, is there a way to find out if preventing an app from starting will cause the tablet from starting altogether?

You can disable apps via Settings > Apps if the Tab is on 4.x.

I've never had an issue with my devices not starting when disabling apps that way (although I've never had a tab 2).
