Preventing unwanted ad from popping up

I have an app installed which was originally "ad-free". Unfortunately, it now pops up full-page unwanted ad when it gets clicked to start every time.

As a result, I think it is "infected" by other sources as I never get its version updated. My question is whether there is an app that prevents unwanted ad from popping up.

First thing to do is to ask the developer if he added ads on his app and if he does ask if he offers a way to remove it. I don't really like system wide ad blocker as it blocks revenue to the developers so I don't recommend it but I also know that ads is annoying so I always recommend purchasing apps or the premium counterpart of a free app instead or in-app ad removal if the app goes that route.
