I guess some are not being totally paranoid:

Mobile privacy concerns spawn the App Trust Project - FierceDeveloper

It's not just privacy. Here's a quote from the article which is one of my main rants at times:

"If you go to the App store, you can often find an amazing application with all kinds of great features, but when you click on the (developer's) Web site, there's nothing," he said. "You try tracking down the developer and it's like Where's Waldo?"

Sorry, but it is totally unclear to me what your OP is about. Apparently you have a beef. But you don't explain what that beef would be about! That you can't find certain developers? And what does that have to do with the title of this thread 'Privacy'?

The linked article is pretty interesting. Once I read it the thread title and quoted text from the op made perfect sense.

Makes sense to me!

The permissions descriptions are too vague & we're still taking a gamble with most apps by using our discretion & reading reviews. It's long been recognized that web review pages are often abused so what's really needed is more specific information relating to what permissions relate to.

it's not really good enough for people to be taking a 'blind leap of faith' when installing apps on their pocket computers when there is the same sensitivity of information on them as is on their desktop computers. This is one of the major downsides to android at the moment.

If you want support with your apps you might have paid for them in the first place. Probably what the article is hinting at is a more apple like experience where the apps are more scrutinised before they're released & less free apps. Now that the smartphone app market race has well & truly been run it's time to forget about 'apple vs android' & who has the most apps & instead get a bit of professionalism going in making these apps.

People read the permissions and want to know why an app has a certain permission.
The choices on Play are Go to Web Page, and email developer. Sometimes neither option yields an answer.

To prevent cries of Paranoia! I merely pointed out that the same no answer also applies to other questions about the app.

I have checked "go to the developer's web page" in Play and there ain't nothing there. Just a blank screen.

You can't find information abouts what file formats does a music/video app read. All you get is nonsense about how cool the app is and how great the UI is if there's any information at all.
