Hello mrscalia, and welcome to the forums.

Sorry to see you're having trouble getting icons onto your screens. What methods are you trying? By icons do you mean the apps in the app drawer that you want represented on some of your screens, or do you mean apps recently download/installed?

One method is to open the app drawer and long press the icon needed until it sticks to the screen, then move it to where you want it on that screen by long pressing it again.

Another is to go into the menu > "add" feature and follow along the prompts there.

Some 3rd party apps are not really apps, they're widgets of the type that don't have icons, but start with another program.

If you already know all this, and it's just not working, sometimes a major update can cause issues that are washed out after a few reboots of the device. Hopefully that resolves it for you because the last resort is to do a factory data reset.

I am having this same issue on 2.3.3. It DOES work if you go through the menu, add/shortcut/app/ The long press in the app drawer does not work. It seems that when the app drawer disappears and you drag the shortcut where on the screen you want it to be, it doesn't register where you want it and instead goes to the trashcan. I am also unable to relocate any shortcuts that already exist, because if I long press an existing shortcut, no matter where on the screen I pull it to, when I let go it goes to the trashcan.
