Help Problem connecting PC to Samsung GT2

beighton

Lurker
I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and am having no success in connecting it to my PC (Windows XP) to transfer music and other files from the PC.

When I connect it to a USB port the balloon at the bottom of the PC screen comes up with "Found New Hardware - Samsung Mobile MTP Device". Nothing else happens. When I click on "My Computer" in Windows the device is not shown.

I have downloaded the Samsung Kies software and tried to connect with it but it stays in the "connecting" mode and nothing more happens.

I have also downloaded Samsung's current USB driver release, but to no effect.

I may well be missing something very basic and obvious but would be most grateful if anyone could help.

It's possible that XP is limited with the USB drivers that is comes bundled with, even with Service pack updates.

You might want to download the Samsung USB drivers which should cure your problem, just google 'samsung usb drivers' second link on the google page which will redirect you to XDA forums.

Failing that, setup a FTP client ie; Filezilla on your PC and something similar on your tablet, and once configured you can transfer them wireless.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I had downloaded the Samsung drivers as suggested but they had no effect. I'll try the FTP option if I can work out how to do it!

Thanks again for your help

All FTP Clients essentially work in the same manner regardless of which one you decide to use.

Lets take my FTP setup for example.

I run SwiFTP on my Galaxy Tab, now, i believe this is no longer available on the Play store, however it is free to download if you google it.

SwiFTP is very straightforward to setup and requires you to enter the following information;

Username
Password
Port number - this is usually set at 2121
Accept Connections from Wifi [tickbox]
Accept Proxy Connections [tickbox]
Keep phone awake [tickbox]

The IP Address is preset in SwiFTP and changes every so often so there is no need to actually try and do anything with this.

Filezilla is my FTP client that i run on the PC end.

Again this is very simple to setup for basic FTP transfers and only requires minimal information, in fact, everything that you have already entered [or is preset] on SwiFTP.

Host - this is the IP Adress of your Wifi URL which SwiFTP will provide you with when you start the programme.

Protocol and Encryption - leave these at default values

Logon Type - Account

User and Password - these are the details you provided to SwiFTP during setup.

Account - this is just a name for the account for connection to your tablet, this is optional, but helps if you have multiple FTP connections that you use, especially when you actually get used t the benefits of FTP.

If you need any more help just give me a bell and i will help where i can.

It really is not that difficult to get up and running, but i fully appreciate that some of this stuff can be a minefield, especially if someone has never used articular applications.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this very detailed info. Looks quite a challenge (for me anyway) but I will enter uncharted territory and give it a go!

Regards.

Hi beighton.

Possibly the only challenge you may come across is giving permission for the FTP client on the PC to access or get through the firewall/router.

Give it a go anyway, you might suprise yourself.

I have no problems with both bluetooth and USB try this
Go to setting on the tab
Developers Options
Turn off USB debuging and then try that
Other Option is uninstall Kies which is crap

Then just plug the Tab in and let windows find the drivers and look at it through My computer and it should show it as drive

Kies is the completely useless. All I want it to do is to sync my calenders between thew Tab and Outlook 2007. It cannot do it. Yest it synced and syncs new contacts both ways. I use the provided USB cable.
Kies reports sync done but changes does not show up. I had to resort to Google Calender Sync

Is there any alternative app available please?:confused:
