Help Problem Connecting ST to MacBook Pro

When I connect my Tab to my MacBook Pro it says I must change USB settings on Wireless and network settings in order to use mass storage. When I go to settings -> Wireless & Network settings -> USB Settings it is grayed out. So I can't get the Mac to recognise the phone/tab. I looked through the USer Guide but that was as helpful as a chocolate teapot. Any ideas? thanks
