problem on android: saving edits to a pdf on GDrive

randor

Lurker
as per the title, when i edit the gdrive pdf from android, be it in adobe app or in chrome pdf reader that opens by default, the edits seem to not be saved!
i see no save button
and if i close all apps (using the bottom left phone button to see them all and then clicking close all), then reopen the pdf, my edits are gone

i have a samsung s6

by edits, i mean highlighting text, adding text comments

Note that PDF is a proprietary file format owned by Adobe. Using the Acrobat Reader app or Chrome app you can view and save them, but unless the PDF is specifically a fillable form type of PDF you cannot edit it directly. To do so you have to do a workaround -- you have to export it as an editable file, do your edits, and then export that altered document as a PDF. If you do want to edit PDF files directly, you do have pay to play so to speak, either buy the desktop Adobe Acrobat application or subscribe to their 'Document Cloud' service:
https://acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/acrobat/pricing.html
https://acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/acrobat/pricing/compare-versions.html
Unless you're getting it subsidized through a work situation, most of us just go through the workarounds. Dropbox added the ability to edit/save PDFs:

Still a workaround but a little more seamless.

actually i just recall that when i closed the pdf, a message flashed up on screen saying that it saved the edits!
therefore i do think that it must have saved somewhere locally...

Hmm. I just tried adding a note and drawing a circle on a pdf in a dropbox using the Adobe app and it saved it okay. I opened the file using the acrobat app, then touched edit to add the modifications. Then tapped the check mark in the lower right corner and hit the back button twice. I got a prompt telling me the file was successfully saved.

Do you have your drive account set to sync?

i have it set to sync with wifi
and i have wifi on.
also ihave tried with sync setting that allows sync without wifi

but, i dont see a Refresh button in Drive so how do i know if its uploaded yet?

also i fiddled with the Available Offline toggle, to no avail

Except you say that when you reopen the document your edits aren't there. You'd be using a local copy anyway which suggests for whatever reason your edits aren't saving in the first place. Do you have a dropbox account just to see if it's Acrobat or Drive that's causing problems.
