Help Problem receiving some text messages

Here is my long and sordid tale:

My wife and I have both had LG-G2 phones for over 2 years, with no issues whatsoever. We're on the Sprint network, not in one of their major markets. I work in the main town, and we live in a very small town on the outskirts of coverage (probably just one tower covering the whole town).

Last September I went swimming with my G2 in my pocket. It didn't die completely and I managed to limp through the last few months of my contract using it until I was eligible for an upgrade. Since LG had done well enough for us, I moved to an LG Stylo. I didn't want the curved screen phone they were selling at the same time.

Since I went to this phone in January, I've had problems with not receiving text messages, my morning alarms sometimes don't go off, and now apparently I'm sometimes not receiving phone calls or voicemail.

It was so bad I bought the extended service warranty and traded in the Stylo for a new Stylo, thinking it was the phone itself that was bad. The new handset promptly had all of the same problems.

So the problem is the phone itself. I do some more research and see some of the potential solutions. I convert my messaging app to Google's Messenger, and that fixes the MMS messages not downloading issue. But I'm still not always getting text messages. I changed my alarm program from the default to Alarm Clock Plus, but I'm not sure that that's fixed that problem. I think once every two weeks it doesn't go off. One morning I woke up early and sat and watched the phone. My 6am alarm didn't go off until 6:02. Something in the phone software is stalling or locking up on sending timed alerts, I'm guessing.

This morning I find out that my carpool buddy both called *and* texted me last night to let me know he wouldn't be going in to work today. I have no record of either attempt to contact me. There was an internet outage most of yesterday due to storms, and so I had Wi-Fi turned off on my phone to avoid it running its battery down trying to find the internet thru the wi-fi. Internet was back up by last night, and the phone had been working earlier in the day. The issue should not have been a network problem.

I've installed the MightyText app mentioned earlier in this thread to see if it helps me with messaging. I've also put it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet. The text message history it shows does not show any missed messages from last night, but if it's pulling from the phone it might not.

It's to the point that if there's no improvement this week I'm going back to the store and try to trade this piece of junk in for a completely different phone.

The fact that we've had no problems with our LG-G2 tells me it is NOT the Sprint network that's the heart of the problem. In the forums I've seen people complain about messaging and alarms for LG devices, but we never had any problems before. Something about the Stylo is off. Maybe their software doesn't sync properly, or they've pre-loaded it down with too much junk software (one of the issues I originally went in for was it was slooooow to respond to screen touches. The memory on it was almost full, and I'd only installed a couple of apps, and none of them were huge. It's a bit better now that I've deleted some of the stuff I don't want or use and moved some others to an SD card).

I'll let you know if MightyText helps me any over the next week. If it merely echoes text messages from my phone to my PC and tablet, then I'm not expecting it to change anything. My phone not receiving the messages should equal my PC and tablet also not receiving them.

Well, I switched to "Hangouts" and I've had no other issues. Problem fixed.

I was using"Hangouts" when I switched to the Stylo and began having problems. After trying many settings, apps and options I had to accept the fact that it's something to do with the phone design and LG/Sprint isn't willing to do a single thing about it. (they've got our money, why change?) the best results I've had is with the stock "messaging" app and Google's "messenger" app.

As an update - my wife sent me a text message that never arrived this afternoon, and MightyText didn't catch it either. What I expected. I imagine I'll be visiting the store tomorrow to see about exchanging this phone for something that isn't an unreliable piece of junk.

Final update: there were no phone options to change to other than another Stylo. So we upgraded my wife's phone to a Samsung Galaxy, and I took her old LG G2, which is what I used to have as well. One immediately obvious change is that apparently the G2 has 32GB of storage, while the Stylo only has 8. Yes, the Stylo can have a microSD card added, but a lot of apps won't let you move them to the SD card, and the phone comes so loaded down with stuff that it's already almost full. You have to delete pre-installed software to get decent performance from the get-go. And, of course, the pre-loaded stuff can't possibly be moved to the SD card. It's far too important for that. ;)

I'm late to this party, and I apologize.

I'm currently having this same issue of not receiving *some* texts, mostlyy boyfriend's and actually tracking texts from USPS. it seems like if I'm having a conversation with my bf, and he texts me right back, I get it, if not, I don't.

how I know it's a phone issue- the "flash" light on the back will blink when I "get" the message, but it mostly never shows up. every once in a while if I open the text app it'll show, or a day or two later when I restart my phone it pops up.

lol bf would get mad, I'd ask/tell him everything we've "discussed" in text. but who knows what texts I'm really missing.

My husband and I was a boost mobile customer for over 13 years and the only problem with text messaging was how long it would take before we would receive a text message but other then that we never had any problems with not getting text messages until recently when we switched from boost mobile over to t mobile and bought new LG stylo 6 phones.
I backed up what I wanted off my old LG stylo 5 to SD card and transferred my data that way now MY husband did LG switch from his old phone to the new phone and for some reason hes not getting any of my texts he gets everyone else's but not mine.but I get all of his.
At first I thought it was because GE had r the old LG stylo 5 messages app put on his new phone with the LG switch and I thought maybe that app and the stylo 6 messaging app were canceling each other out. When ever we try to figure it out and change a couple things he gets my texts for maybe 3or 4 minutes then it stops again.we have uninstalled the old app again worked good for 3 or 4 min then stopped again we have tried everything we could think of shy of factory resting his new phone.
At a loss dont know what to do . any help would be great

on the LG stylo 5 the default messaging app is called messages and on the LG stylo 6 its called messaging we just switched over from using the stylo 5 with boost to the LG stylo 6 on t mobile.
