Help Problem sending texts? Network service unavaliable?

Hi all. Ive recently brought a Samsung Galaxy S off ebay a few weeks ago. Its been working fine untill last week when it wouldnt let me send a text message. So i went into settings, phone info & It would say 'Service Stats, Out of Service'? So i was talking to a guy at work who has a Galaxy S too and he said just update it to the latest software by Samsung Kies? So i plugged it in & let it update and it worked fine after that, was sending texts/making calls all day yesterday untill this morning i woke up and its saying Out of Service again?

So i emailed my network operator and asked them to check out the IMEI number thinking this phone might have been stolen and sold on ebay. They emailed me back saying they checked there database and cannot see any restrictions on the handset?

So can anyone help me with whats happening?

Thanks,

You need an active data connection to send SMS.

When you're having the problem try switching phone to GSM only.

Esentially GSM was the standard for 2G.

Stood for something like Global System for Mobile Communications, I think.

Your phone will probably be set for GSM/WCDMA (Auto). Seems the phone isn't always good at switching between the two.

Ok thanks, I've changed it to GSM and still saying Emergancy Calls Only?

If its saying Emergency Calls Only then sounds like it's not recog the SIM.

Try taking out and reinserting. Or try another SIM if you can.

Starting to sound like an issue with the handset.

I'm assuming the handset isn't locked to a particular network?

Might be an idea to try your SIM in another phone which would at least comfirm if your SIM is OK.

It's unlocked to all networks, was on vodaphone but previous owner got it unlocked. I put sim in a other phone and it works fine?
