I downloaded version 222.26.7.en.US yesterday on my Moto X and after the two step downloads and installation I received an a message needing to update Google Play Services. When trying to download it I received an error that there wasn't enough storage, which lead me to clear out about 2 GBs of data.

The problem that I'm having now is that when I go to update the Google Play Services, it makes it to about 35% of the download and then never gets further, no matter how long I leave it downloading. Then at some point it claims to start installing which runs indefinitely before giving me an "Error Installing Google Services - 504" message.

I receive nonstop messages throughout the day alerting me individually that each Google app (Maps, Hangouts, Gmail) won't work until I update Google Play Store and it results in my battery dying in hours.

Good Morning!

There could be one of 3 things that could be happening here from what I've been able to understand from your post. Either:

1) There is a connectivity issue going on with your internet, either data or wi-fi.
2) The Play Store is stuck.
3) The update installed incorrectly.

The solutions for these 3 scenarios are as follows:

1) Check to make sure you are connected to a strong wi-fi signal if updating over data. If a wi-fi signal is not available, make sure that you have strong wireless signal so your mobile data speed is up to par. You can also try power-cycling the device or toggle airplane mode on/off to refresh the signal of the device. If the issue persists after this, it might be a registration issue and you would have to contact your service provider for further assistance in re-registering your device to the network.

2) Go to your device's Application Manager and under the app Play Store, select Force Stop and Clear Data. From there, go back to the Play Store and try updating Google Play Services again.

3) Make sure your device's information (contacts, photos, videos, etc.) is backed up, either via a Cloud service, a microSD card, or a computer. Once that is done, go to Settings -> Backup and Reset -> Factory Data Reset -> Reset Phone. Make sure that the option "Erase SD Card" is NOT selected if you have a microSD card inserted in the phone. This will perform a master reset on the device and reinstall the OS on your device. The version which it installs will be the same version currently running on the device. Make sure that the device is either fully charged or connected to a charger during the installation process so it doesn't get interrupted.
