Problem when on a call, screen stays off...cannot get back on

I noticed that if I switch to speakerphone, the screen will eventually go off and NOT come back on. When the other caller hangs up, you'll here a beep signalling that the call has officially ended.

If I am not on speakerphone and place the phone to my face, the screen goes off, but has always come back on once removed from my face, so that I can see the "end" key to disconnect.

Well, not really. In my case I am not on speakerphone and when the phone is removed from my face the screen does not come back on and I cannot end the call or even go to speakerphone if I want to. It has happened a few times now, thinking about going to Verizon.

I had this problem too, for the first few days I owned my Droid.

Then, I found out that the heat sensor (also known as the "proximity sensor") is located in the upper left corner of the Droid screen.

I had inadvertently been putting my thumb near the upper left corner when I pulled the Droid away from my face, and the screen would blank out.

If this is your problem, try moving your thumb away, and see if your screen comes back after a second or two.

this is like the 10th thread on this issue don't they all come up when you try and post yours?

Lets get someone to write an app that uses the camera button to auto turn the screen on when on a call or up to like 5 seconds after hangup.

I had a similar issue the other night I was in bed, the room lights were off and I was surfing the web. After a while my lighted keys (back, menu, home and search) went off. Although I knew where they were on the phone, I was annoyed that whatever I did, I could not get those keys to light up again. I even slid the screen up and slid it back down and they still didn't light up. Someone mentioned something about it might have to do with the proximity sensor but I ran my finger in the area of where it is and that didn't do anything. The only way I was able to get the keys back to being lit was to get out of bed and turn the bedroom lights on! Once I did that, the lights on those keys lit back up! What's up with that????

For your issue you need to cover the the light sensor, not the proximity sensor. The light sensor is the one to the right of the earpiece.
