Problem with Android Market

Hi all,
I'm new to the whole Android OS, so forgive me if I seem uninformed...
I recently got the HTC Droid Incredible 2, and lately the Market just won't load. It would just flash a white screen as if it were loading, then just return me to the home page. I read up on it online to the best of my ability, and I decided that maybe it was out of date, so I downloaded the Market 3.0.26 (it was a 2.3.4). I had to go to a website to download it because my phone somehow didn't recognize that it needed update (I went to software updates and everything was up to date). Now when I try to open it, it says "You must add an account to the device to continue" and when I hit "yes" it just returns me to my home screen again. I'm so confused! My phone is already synced to my gmail account....
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,:D
