Help Problem with battery ... is this normal?

Hi, I got a mytouch 4G a few weeks ago. It's great but I always feel like there's something wrong with my battery. Just this morning I took it off the charger at 9AM, 100% battery. It was on stand by till about noon, I made a quick phone call, and then noticed the battery level was at 87%. After surfing the internet a little I noticed that the battery was dropping at an increasing rate. It was about ten minutes and my phone's battery was at 79% already.

Some days it works quite well, some surfing and games and texting can last me for a good ten hours.

I have my phone at good settings, I set my sync frequencies to the least and I force stop an app after I'm done using it manually (without a task killer app). Help me out? Is this normal?

Check to see if your 4g is turned on. If you are like me and don't live in a 4g area, than you don't really need to be searching for it. You can turn it off under settings -> Wireless & Networks. Also check to see if bluetooth, GPS and WI-FI are on. All of these drain battery life hardcore. I only turn them on when I use them then turn them off again. Finally get a task killer (I recommend Advanced Task Killer. It is free and works really good.) Since android multitasks like crazy instead of closing a llot of apps it just pushes them to the background. Killing them when not in use helps save processing power and battery life.

There are some phones that just have bad battery life ie. HTC EVO. Its just something we have to deal with as smartphone users.

Good luck hope this helps.

christineee I had the same problem until i found the power widget on the market/blackmarket app to turn off 4G which will give you almost twice the battery life. 4G constantly ups and down data which drains the battery life

Whenever, you need it you can just enable it.

You don't need a task killer with Froyo.

Like other said, you can turn off 4g if you don't need it (like JDizzle recommended, you can do this without an app). I used to do this, but I didn't like that whenever I wanted to surf the web at 4g, I had to go into settings and then wait for it to load. Kind of defeats the purpose. Now I only do it if I know I won't be around 4g, or if I won't be around a charger.

Fyi - WIFI actually uses less battery than EDGE/3g/4g - When you're connected to Wifi, the phone doesn't have to do the work of searching for and maintaining a strong data connection. Instead it just simply connects to the wifi router that does all the work... Faster speeds, less battery, WIN! But, do make sure to turn off wifi when not connected (searching for wifi will drain the battery if there's no networks to connect to)

Also disable GPS and bluetooth when not using them.

I would highly recommend disabling screen auto-brightness, and having your brightness set very low. The screen generally uses the most amount of battery power under normal phone use. You'll find that the Mytouch has a very powerful screen, and even with relatively low brightness settings, it's more than bright enough. I have mine set to around 15% most of the time. If I'm outdoors (walking my dog, walking to the grocery store, at the park, etc) where it's harder to see the screen, I will turn auto-brightness back on. But once I'm back inside, it's back to low brightness!

If you're really careful about monitoring all these things, you'll likely be able to get through the day on a single charge. I used to be really strict about everything. However I've loosened up a bit, realizing that it's a smartphone - it's going to have be a battery drain! I typically charge my phone while I'm in the car and at night, and I'm fine with having 4g on all day.

The Mytouch is great, but is a battery drainer, even for a smartphone.

Oh... don't forget to condition your battery! It's recommended to to it 3 times within the first week of having the phone, then approx once a month.

Good luck!

I have had good luck with JuiceDefender. It shuts off the mobile network 3g/4g and turns in on every 15 minutes to allow the phone to get emails and sync. It has helped me get through a whole 8-9 hour day without a recharge.

In addition to people said above to save your battery (turn off blue-tooth, WIFi, GPS, data-sync ), you can do two things below as my suggestions. At least, they work to me and save a lot my battery.

In my very recent exp, add the "Power Control" Widget to your desk and turn the screen brightness off. Or, go to Menu > Display > Brightness and turn it off by moving the vertical bar all the way to the left.

Second, change your wallpaper to a simple picture without animation. Any live wallpaper will drain your battery more than a simple picture wallpaper.

Hope the way I said here can help you a little.
