Help Problem with Contacts

Lurker
I just bought a Mesmerize and tried to set up a "group". After several failed attempts, I contacted Samsung support and was told that since my contacts synchronized under gmail that I could not set up a group. They told me that my contacts had to be saved on the memory card. Is there a way to transfer my contacts to the memory card or to unsynchronize them from gmail?

Thanks for any input!

Yes, you can move your google accounts to your phone.

There are two separate types of contacts you can put on the phone. "Phone" contacts and "SNS" contacts.

Phone contacts are just that--contacts stored on your phone. They are not backed up or stored anywhere other than your phone, so if you wipe your phone or lose it, you will lose them. (Not to worry, if you are careful about backing up contacts periodically, this is not a problem.

SNS contacts are contacts that are synced to your phone from "the cloud" through whichever service you elect. You can choose more than one. Facebook and Google accounts are the most popular SNS accounts. These accounts are "stored" in your account on the respective sites, so there is no risk of losing your contacts. Changes you make in Google accounts, for example, automatically update to your phone.

To export the contacts from Google, go to your Gmail account on a PC or Mac, and select contacts. Under "more actions" select export, and choose export as .CSV file.

Once this file is created, email it to yourself to the same gmail account, or file transfer it with a USB connection.

Save it to your SD card. Open contacts, press the menu button, select import contacts, select from SD card.
