Problem with full sized docking keyboard for Tab2

Galaxy Tab2 47

Android Enthusiast
Anyone ordering the docking and keyboard being offered on many internet sites like Amazon.com Be advised they are marked for Galaxy 7" the problem is the new Galaxy Tab2 is a little wider and will not fit into this docking and keyboard station. as of today Samsung told me they do not yet have a docking and keyboard station to fit the Galaxy Tab2.

I don't feel the resellers are trying very hard to tell buyers of these items, maybe they just don't know the facts themselves

along with my call to Samsung Tech. Support they told me I was not the first to call about this item.

You might have seen the Galaxy Tab and docking station and keyboard student unit, that Best Buy and many internet sites are now selling for $249 This is the older first Gen. one Tab not the new Tab2.

I hope this clears up any mis understanding about the docking and keyboards and what is being sold as a student combo Galaxy and docking keyboard.

I just bought this from Costco. The packaging, documentation and the device (about tablet) all state Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

Well I would call Samsung and confirm that you do have a new Galaxy Tab2 the new model is GT-P3113. If you have the student package Samsung says it's the old first Gen.Tab. and they do not have a docking and keyboard for the new Galaxy Tab2. If someone at Samsung tells you something different please let me know. Samsung support for the United States is 1-888-987-4357.

This is the one I bought at BB. Everything I have says it's the Tab 2 and GT-P3113.

You bought the student package? The full Modle from my box is GT-P3113TSYXR The UPC Code is 35753 49830 1
If you have the new Tab2 with the docking Keyboard then I was given the wrong Info. I would advise you to call Samsung to get the real Info. yourself.

Well Best Buy might have it marked as a Tab2 but the manager of my Best Buy told me they were the older plain Gen. one Tabs. This is the same as Samsung tech. support Rep. told me. If Best Buy have mis marked them as a Tab2 I sure would take it up with Best Buy.

I just purchased mine from BB a week ago and everything show it as a Tab 2 SE, P3113.

The links you list show the black one but the student edition is white. And yes, if you buy the non student edition you will pay regular price.

So if it list as P3113 mean it is the latest one?

Thnx.

Well I guess you know what you bought so the Samsung support people are wrong, and the manager of my local Best Buy is wrong.
So just why can,t I fit my new black Galaxy Tab2 into the Samsung docking keyboard unit I ordered? Says it's for the Galaxy Tab 7. Why won't it fit?

To be honest, I haven't tried my keyboard yet. :)

Is this the one you bought separately?

SAMSUNG - Galaxy Tab

Maybe the student edition and keyboard was made at the same timeframe since it's a special edition.

Give us the model number of your keyboard and we can check to see if they are different sizes.
I'm at work now but can check tomorrow.

Yeah I bet that is what I ended up with.
I bought the Galaxy Tab2 at Best Buy $249 got a free small docking stand. Wanted a keyboard but they did not have just the Samsung docking keyboard. So I looked on Amazon.com found the Samsung docking keyboard for a Galaxy Tab. 7 I noticed it did nt say Galaxy Tab2 but the 7 made me think it was the correct unit. I was really wrong, I was really taken back when I found my Galaxy Tab2 was just anout 1/16 inch to big. for some unknown reason the Samsung engineers made the housing on the new 7" Tab2 wider.
Anyway what the Samsung support guy told me they have gotten a bunch of calls from people just like me, who don't understand why the docking key board unit that said was for a 7" Galaxy Tab did not fit their Galaxy Tab2s. He had no idea when they would be making a new docking keyboard unit but they surly will.

I bought a Logitech Blue Tooth tablet keyboard for my Apple iPad2 and it's has super feeling keyboard keys it's $69 and I can take it way over the 30 feet they say in Spec. and still reach my iPad2.
They also make one for the Androids so I will be getting one also for my Galaxy Tab2. This will solve my keyboard problems.

I bought the Student edition from BB a couple of weeks ago. The Tab and keyboard fit well. Since the KB has an external dock connector you can charge the tab while connected to the KB or connect a mouse to the USB OTG module which comes with the SE. I haven't tried a USB hub with the OTG but it works fine with USB flash drives.

This all seems very odd. Seems the information you've been given leaves more questions than answers. You said you have the black galaxy tab 2 and straight from Samsungs accessory page for your tablet, if you scroll all the way to the bottom, this is the keyboard dock for that tablet. The model # for the dock is EKD-K11AWE which is the same model # for the white student edition (P3113). Is this the same model # of the keyboard dock you bought that doesn't fit your tablet?

If you will look at the link to the Samsung Docking Keyboard you will notice it's listed as for the Galaxy Tab not the Galaxy Tab2. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EKD-K11AWEBSTD

I guess the best thing for anyone to do is just call Samsung at 1-888-987-4357 this number is for the USA. and get any questions answered by Samsung.
I know what I was told by Samsung and I know what I was told by my local Best Buy manager.
Both said the white units are the student Galaxy Tab the first Gen. and are not the newer Galaxy Tab2. also Samsung said there was no Docking Keyboard for the newer Galaxy Tab2 at this present time.
what I ordered from Amazon.com is listed as a Docking Keyboard for a Galaxy Tab 7. and I have already posted will not except my Galaxy Tab2.
I have no idea how and why Best Buy posts anything on their web site, also have no idea how Samsung marks their products.
Best for anyone to just contact Samsung themselves.;)

I did look at the link. I also clicked it when I posted in my own comment; I'm thoroughly like that. Did you read the rest of the description or just stop when you saw galaxy tab 7.0?

Also, the 1st gen Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 has capacitive buttons (menu, home, etc) on the bezel. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 back, menu, home, etc are on screen.
I took the liberty of getting a pic of both tablets for you.

Whoever your Best Buy store manager is doesn't know what he's talking about. Also, the keyboard dock you more than likely purchased was the dock for the 1st gen tab which is why your tab 2 didn't fit.

So what you are implying is it is for the new Galaxy Tab2 correct?

I cant say it any differently. I gave you the model # for the keyboard dock for YOUR Galaxy Tab 2 which is the same one that came with the white student ed. which is also the same one posted in my previous post. The white student ed. is not the 1st gen tab as you've stated.

Any keyboard dock bought from other places/sources will advertise it's for your tab cause those bozos won't take the extra steps to ensure they're not selling the wrong product. They tend to assume 7" will fit all of the 7" tabs and that's not the case.

From everything you posted in your initial post, the keyboard dock you purchased was for the 1st gen tab 7" and because it's not for the Galaxy Tab 2, you can get a refund from Amazon.

Most Best Buy managers just like to hear themselves sound knowledgable.

So I guess Samsung has given me the wrong answer also? I hope everyone who has bought what ever they bought are happy with it. As for me Amazon has already contacted me with a shipping label for my Docking Keyboard so it can be returned.
As I already posted since buying the Logitech blue tooth keyboard for my IPad2 I don't want any docking keyboards at this time. And if I really want a keyboard for the Galaxy Tab2 it will be the Android one that Logitech sells.
Everyone now enjoy your new toys. Cheers.:)

"Samsung gave you the wrong answer?" You don't think that's possible esp. having been provided evidence to the contrary?

smh.... Anyway, I plan to get the Logitech for Android cause I don't like always taking my tab out of the case.

I just checked my keyboard to make sure it works and the model number is same as what ScandaLeX picture show.

Just got out of a chat session with Samsung. They told me that this is the proper keyboard for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0:

Galaxy Tab

Note that it's the EKD version of the keyboards.
