Problem with Google apps on android....?

i have updated Google maps on my phone from 5.4 to 5.9 . after i did this , every time i want to open it , i see an error message which says :"program requires a working data connection" .
i do have a data connection (WiFi) but the application doesn't seem to be using it and keeps giving me that error .
please tell me what to do if you know what the problem is .

p.s. i have a Sony Ericsson X10 mini which runs on android OS version 2.1

Strange problem.. try as sitlet said reboot..

i did try rebooting
didn't help

Try uninstalling Google Maps completely. Then reboot. The install Google Maps again.

i did that too , but nothing changed
